Role description
Position: Database Administrator Location: Minneapolis, MN Setting: Hybrid; onsite Tuesday-Thursday and remote on Monday & Friday Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours. On-call rotation every 4 weeks for 7 days. Contract Length: 12 months; possible extension and/or conversion Contract Rate: $61.50/hour (W2) Overview: The Database Administrator II will support the Operational Technology (OT) side of The Company, including SCADA and nuclear systems. Responsibilities include managing and supporting multiple database platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MariaDB), performing performance tuning, patching, database builds, backup and recovery, and scripting for automation. This role primarily supports the database environments for OT Energy Services which includes Distribution, Transmission and Nuclear business areas and other regulated application databases. You will partner with application support teams on projects of all sizes and durations. The Database Administrator serves as diagnostician and solution provider for data, information and business process-related analysis. You are responsible for providing technical expertise in specific data domains and incorporating data governance into daily activities. You provide expertise in the integration of data, insights and trends and solution recommendations. You enable data driven decisions for their respective domain. You partner with other analysts to extract, interpret, and perform advanced analytics. Essential Responsibilities: Β· Experience with SQL Server Database Administration for which includes Database Backup and Recovery Performance Tuning and Business Continuity. Β· Experience with Oracle Database Administration for which includes Database Backup and Recovery, Performance Tuning and Business Continuity. Β· Consultation: Work cross-organizationally to drive adoption of standard tools, and improved data integrity. Β· Ensure IT solutions have sound data management practices. Β· Provide subject matter expertise and consultation on data aspects of new and/or changing IT solutions. Typical Day: - Participate in on-call rotation (every 4 weeks, 7-day coverage). - Monitor DBA helpdesk and address proactive/reactive alerts. - Collaborate with internal teams and support ongoing projects (e.g., ADMS upgrade). - Use ServiceNow to manage and fulfill requests. - Daily tasks include checking emails, resolving tickets, and supporting project needs. Group Supported: - Will work with 5 DBAs (including Glen Gonsalves). - Collaborate with various application support teams and project stakeholders. - Limited development work; scripting and automation are key. Minimum Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree in technology, Science, Business or related field, or 8 years of experience equivalent to the position. - Strong communication skills, effective with varying organizational levels and skill sets. - Strong Relationship Management and collaboration skills, with a track record of working as one team cross-organizationally to drive innovation and business results. - Excellent problem-solving, data governance acumen, and analytical skills. - Demonstrated experience with distributed computing, data visualization, data architecture and structure, statistical modeling, and predictive modeling. - Experience with machine learning. - Experience designing, developing and delivering reporting solutions and providing insight to business. - Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend BI solutions to fulfill business requirements. - Hands-on experience with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MariaDB. - Performance tuning, patching, database builds. - Backup and recovery expertise. - Scripting experience: KornShell (Unix/Linux), PowerShell (Windows). - Experience with ServiceNow. - Strong communication and collaboration. - Team player with a proactive mindset. - Transparency and accountability. Ideal Skillset: - 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience is preferred - Experience in utility or SCADA environments is a strong plus - Possession of Microsoft or Oracle certifications (i.e., OCP) is preferred - Experience with scripting & automation tools is preferred Β· Strong technical knowledge of SQL Server database administration for SQL Server 2014,2016,2017, 2019 and 2022. Β· Strong technical knowledge of Oracle database administration for 12c,19c and 21c. Β· Experienced with SQL Server Integration Services, i.e., SSIS package development and implementation, reporting services. Β· Experienced with Database replication technologies i.e. mirroring, log shipping, replication Β· Experienced with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM), RAC and Data Guard technology. Β· Experienced with Oracle and SQL Server Major Version upgrade Β· Experienced with T-SQL, PL/SQL, Shell Scripting, PowerShell Scripting Β· Experienced with Windows/SQL Server Clustering and AlwaysOn Failover Cluster. Β· Experienced with managing PostgreSQL and MySQL Databases.
