Role Overview
We are seeking a Database Administrator II with strong technical depth in SQL Server administration, analytical problem solving, and a proactive, disciplined approach to troubleshooting. You will ensure the performance, availability, and security of mission critical databases that support healthcare operations across Puerto Rico. The ideal candidate is bilingual, highly collaborative, and comfortable partnering with business, development, and operations teams.
Core Skills
SQL Server Administration expertise, including:
Installation, configuration, patching, backups
β―High Availability (clustering/HA)
Performance tuning (indexes, queries, plans)
Strong analytical skills, disciplined troubleshooting, and a proactive mindset.
Typical Day & Role Expectations:
- Manage & monitor SQL Server and DB2 environments for performance, health, and stability.
- Perform backup/restore operations, validate job success, and support disaster recovery (DR) readiness activities.
- Execute database deployments, upgrades, and patching within change management policies.
- Partner with Development/DevOps to troubleshoot ETL processes, stored procedures, and web/API data issues.
- Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles for repeatable operations.
- Develop automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell/TSQL) to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
- Support oncall rotations for production incidents affecting databases or dependent applications.
Qualifications Required:
5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator or in a closely related role.
Advanced SQL Server administration skills across HA, performance, backup/restore, and lifecycle management.
Strong scripting capability (e.g., PowerShell, TSQL) for automation and operational reliability.
Clear, concise communication skills; ability to document and standardize procedures.
Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) to collaborate effectively with teams in Puerto Rico.
Preferred
- Experience administering or supporting IBM DB2 in production environments.
- Exposure to ETL tooling (e.g., SSIS) and CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
- Familiarity with healthcare data contexts, compliance practices (e.g., HIPAA), and EHRadjacent integrations.
- Knowledge of Azure/AWS database services, monitoring, and backups in cloud or hybrid setups.
- IT service management familiarity (e.g., ITIL practices) for incident/change/problem processes.
Logistics: Work Schedule & Work Model
- Work Schedule: MondayβFriday, 8:00 a.m. β 5:00 p.m. AST.
- OnCall: Participation in
