Role description
We are seeking an experienced Database Architect / Senior Database Developer to support a large-scale Government of Canada initiative focused on building and maintaining secure, scalable, and high-availability database systems.
This is a hands-on technical role with a strong emphasis on Oracle database development, PL/SQL programming, performance optimization, and operational stability. You will work closely with application developers, architects, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust database solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and deploy database-driven application components.
Build and optimize Oracle database solutions with a focus on security, scalability, and performance.
Develop and maintain PL/SQL packages, procedures, functions, and complex SQL queries.
Analyze and enhance existing systems to improve efficiency, availability, and reliability.
Participate in system design discussions and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments in collaboration with DevOps teams.
Perform database performance tuning, profiling, and troubleshooting.
Maintain clear technical documentation for database designs and system changes.
Work effectively with distributed teams and contribute to Agile delivery practices.
Required Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience with:
Oracle Database (11g and/or 19c)
PL/SQL
ANSI SQL
Toad or similar Oracle tools
Proven experience building secure, high-performance, and highly available database applications.
Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools such as:
GitHub, Jenkins, Jira, UCD
Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban).
Required Qualifications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Comfortable working in a hybrid model (3 days onsite, 2 days remote).
Eligibility to obtain Government of Canada Secret-level security clearance (required).
Nice to Have
Previous experience working on Government of Canada or public sector projects.
Background in telecommunications or regulated industries.
Experience supporting mission-critical or security-sensitive systems.
