Database Developer - Ansible

About the Role We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) on a contract basis to support our enterprise-scale database operations. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in YugabyteDB and PostgreSQL, with added experience in Google Spanner being highly desirable. This role requires a hands-on professional who excels in automation and operational efficiency using Python and Ansible. Key Responsibilities • Administer, optimize, and maintain YugabyteDB and PostgreSQL environments in production and staging. • Develop and implement automation solutions for database provisioning, monitoring, patching, and scaling using Python and Ansible. • Perform advanced database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and query optimization. • Ensure high availability, replication, clustering, backup, and disaster recovery strategies are in place. • Collaborate with engineering and DevOps teams to support cloud-based and distributed applications. • Provide technical support during database incidents, root cause analysis, and remediation. • Evaluate and contribute towards adoption of Google Cloud Spanner for distributed use cases. • Maintain strong database security, compliance, and audit readiness. Qualifications Must-Have: • 7+ years of DBA experience with strong expertise in PostgreSQL. • Hands-on production experience with YugabyteDB (preferred) or other distributed SQL databases. • Solid skills in Python scripting and Ansible automation. • Strong understanding of database internals, indexing, replication, clustering, and sharding. • Cloud exposure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) in database deployments. • Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization experience. Nice-to-Have: • Experience with Google Spanner or similar distributed databases. • CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code exposure (Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm). • Knowledge of compliance, security, and governance standards.
