About the Role
The City of Durham is undergoing a transformative modernization of its enterprise systems, including the implementation of Oracle ERP, HCM, and Utility Billing platforms, alongside Fusion Data Intelligence and Fusion Analytics Warehouse (FAW). We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing data team to help design, build, and extend our citywide data platform.
This role will be instrumental in enabling data extensibility, integrating third-party systems (e.g., Clariti on Salesforce, Esri GIS), and ensuring robust data governance and security practices across the City’s data ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), and Fusion Analytics extensibility frameworks.
• Extend and customize Oracle Fusion Analytics data models to support city-specific reporting and analytics needs.
• Integrate third-party data sources (e.g., Salesforce, Esri, legacy systems) into the Fusion Analytics Warehouse.
• Collaborate with business analysts, application owners, and data stewards to define data requirements and ensure data quality.
• Implement and enforce data governance policies, metadata management, and data lineage tracking.
• Support the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for data solutions, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation.
• Ensure data security and compliance with municipal, state, and federal regulations.
• Monitor and optimize data pipelines for performance and reliability.
Qualifications
Required:
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on Oracle technologies.
• Strong experience with Oracle Fusion Applications (ERP, HCM, Utilities) and Fusion Analytics Warehouse (FAW).
• Proficiency in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), or similar ETL tools.
• Solid understanding of data modeling, SQL, and performance tuning in Oracle environments.
• Experience with data governance frameworks and tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, or Oracle Enterprise Metadata Management).
• Familiarity with integrating cloud-based and on-premise systems, including Salesforce and Esri GIS.
• Understanding of security best practices for data platforms, including role-based access control and data masking.
• Experience working in Agile or hybrid SDLC environments.
Preferred:
• Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services.
• Knowledge of municipal operations or public sector data domains.
• Familiarity with REST/SOAP APIs and data ingestion from external systems.
