Design Engineer Overview Join an innovative AI product team as a Design Engineer, where your expertise will directly influence the development of accessible, high-quality front-end experiences. Sitting at the crossroads of design and front-end development, you will translate Figma designs into seamless, user-centric React components. This pivotal role requires a collaborative spirit, strong technical acumen, and a passion for accessible design, helping shape products that are both functional and inclusive for users worldwide. Required Skills β€’ Proficiency in Figma, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React β€’ Extensive experience implementing WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards β€’ Strong understanding of UX principles, interaction design, and responsive layouts β€’ Experience in translating designs into production-ready code while maintaining design fidelity β€’ Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and Git/GitHub version control β€’ Hands-on knowledge of AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot β€’ Ability to review and identify design and code defects, ensuring high-quality outputs β€’ Empathy for users with diverse needs, including those using assistive technologies Nice To Have Skills β€’ Experience with AI-powered products, chat UI/UX, and streaming response patterns β€’ Knowledge of accessibility testing tools like axe, WAVE, or screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver, JAWS) β€’ Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Testing Library, or Playwright β€’ Familiarity with design system evolution and surface gap analysis in collaboration with design teams Preferred Education And Experience β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience β€’ Minimum 5-7 years delivering high-quality digital product features, with at least 3-5 years in front-end development, particularly with React and TypeScript β€’ Proven track record working within agile teams on AI or conversational product interfaces Other Requirements β€’ Comfortable working with existing codebases and contributing to ongoing feature development β€’ Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams including design, engineering, and product management MissionStaff is an equal opportunity employer.
