Role description
Responsibilities Kforce has a client that is seeking a DevOps Engineer in Windsor Mill, MD Summary: We are seeking a DevOps Engineer with strong experience supporting big data analytics platforms and modern data infrastructure. In this role, you will build and operate reliable, scalable CI/CD and infrastructure automation for data services-spanning data lakes, data meshes, and data warehousing systems-while ensuring secure, governed data movement and high-quality ETL processing. The ideal candidate blends DevOps rigor with data platform knowledge, strong operational discipline, and a passion for automation, observability, and information assurance. Duties: β€’ Design, build, and operate DevOps practices for big data management systems including ingestion, processing, storage, and analytics layers β€’ Engineer highly available, secure, and observable data infrastructure supporting batch and streaming workloads β€’ Improve platform reliability via SRE-style practices: SLIs/SLOs, incident response, postmortems, capacity planning, and performance tuning β€’ Administer and support database management needs for analytics and operational data stores (performance tuning, backups, indexing, HA/DR) β€’ Provide and maintain query tools access and environments used by analysts, engineers, and governance teams β€’ Support user workflows involving structured data tools including Microsoft Access (as needed for legacy reporting, extracts, and departmental workflows) β€’ Implement and maintain a metadata repository and technical catalog integrations (schemas, lineage, ownership, retention) β€’ Manage artifacts and assets across repositories (code repositories, configuration repositories, data catalogs) ensuring versioning, traceability, and audit readiness β€’ Establish standards for naming, tagging, documentation, and lifecycle management for pipelines, datasets, and configuration Requirements β€’ 3+ years of experience in DevOps/Platform Engineering/SRE roles supporting data-intensive systems β€’ Hands-on experience with big data analytics platforms and/or data engineering ecosystems β€’ Experience implementing operational monitoring, logging, alerting, and on-call practices β€’ Experience supporting data lake architectures and/or data mesh operating models and enablement platforms β€’ DHA, VA or Healthcare experience β€’ Strong understanding of: ETL processing, orchestration, scheduling, and pipeline failure recovery; Data movement patterns (batch/stream), reconciliation, and integrity checks; Database management (backup/restore, performance tuning, HA concepts) β€’ Familiarity with data warehousing systems (dimensional modeling, workload management, query optimization) β€’ Familiarity with security controls for data platforms: IAM, key management, encryption, network segmentation, and compliance reporting β€’ Working knowledge of metadata management and governance concepts (cataloging, lineage, stewardship, retention) β€’ Proficiency with CI/CD and automation (e.g., Git-based workflows, pipeline tooling, infrastructure automation) β€’ Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills β€’ Comfort supporting legacy workflows/tools such as Microsoft Access and bridging them to modern platforms The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future. We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law.
