Contract Role Title: DevOps Engineer – Data Protection Automation
Contract Location: London / Sheffield / Birmingham (On-site with some Hybrid flexibility)
Contract Start Date: ASAP / February 2026

Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work with Deloitte's Tier 1 global investment banking clients on a large-scale data and regulatory reporting transformation.
We are supporting a large, complex enterprise programme focused on data protection, privacy, storage and automation. This role is a hands-on DevOps engineering position, working within a highly technical environment that supports automated backup, archival, retrieval and reporting solutions in line with regulatory and data privacy requirements.
This is an individual contributor and hands-on role which sits within a data engineering and automation team responsible for building, maintaining and enhancing data protection automation platforms, integrating with internal systems and third-party APIs. The environment is Agile, highly collaborative, and technology-led (circa 90% technical, 10% domain).
Financial services experience is not required — strong DevOps and automation capability is the priority.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, test and support automation for data protection services (including backup and restore platforms)
• Build and maintain automation solutions aligned with data privacy and regulatory requirements
• Design, develop, test and support reporting and monitoring capabilities for automation platforms
• Provide engineering support for data protection automation services in use across the organisation
• Work with REST APIs and third-party API services to integrate tooling and functionality
• Undertake product evaluations, feature enhancements and version upgrades
• Produce clear, structured and comprehensive documentation for all automation delivered
• Collaborate effectively within Agile delivery teams using Scrum methodologies
Required skills and experience:
• Strong hands-on DevOps engineering experience
• Extensive experience with configuration management and orchestration using RedHat Ansible / Ansible Automation Platform
• Expert-level use of GitHub and source control management tooling
• Strong experience working in Agile / Scrum environments
• Proven use of Jira and Confluence for delivery and documentation
• Strong scripting experience in Python and/or Bash (engineering focus, not application development)
• Experience designing, developing and testing REST API services
• Experience integrating and consuming third-party API services
• Strong individual contributor, comfortable working hands-on
• Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills
• Comfortable working across complex technical environments
Desirable skills and experience:
• Experience converting Puppet code into Ansible or other platforms
• Data Protection / Backup & Restore experience
• On-prem infrastructure exposure
• Experience with NetBackup (Cohesity)
• Experience with Commvault
