DevOps Engineer Role type: Contract Security clearance: SC or DV Day Rate: Up to £500 per day (negotiable for the right candidate) Role Summary As a DevOps Engineer, you'll play a central role in delivering secure, scalable, and highly available digital services across government. You will be embedded within a multidisciplinary team to drive automation, build infrastructure as code (IaC), and enable rapid, reliable delivery from discovery through to live operation. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and manage deployment pipelines and automation using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins. • Implement services aligned with GDS standards. • Define and maintain environments via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible). • Collaborate in an Agile manner with developers, architects, and product and delivery teams to support continuous integration, secure builds, and frequent releases. • Embed automation in all stages—build, test, deployment, infrastructure management—to drive efficiency and resilience. • Promote DevOps best practices, share knowledge, and contribute to the broader digital and delivery community. • Monitor, support, and troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment issues to ensure uptime and performance. Required Skills & Experience • Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins). • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and related IaC tools (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible). • Hands-on experience building and managing services using Infrastructure as Code. • Coding or scripting ability in languages such as Python, Go, Bash, JavaScript, or PowerShell. • Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture. • Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), automated testing, security-by-design, and Agile/DevOps collaborative workflows. Desirable Skills • Experience with monorepo tooling (NX, Turborepo) or PaaS platforms (Netlify, Vercel). • Working knowledge of React or other front-end technologies. • Experience in mentoring or growing capability within teams. Clearance Please note, we have two positions available for a DevOps Engineer. One requires an active SC (Security Check) clearance, and the other requires an active DV (Developed Vetting) clearance Only candidates with either security clearance can be considered.
