

DevOps Engineer
Job Title: IBMi DevOps Engineer
Location: Remote
Duration: 6 months (with potential for extension)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on IBMi DevOps Engineer to lead the modernization and optimization of deployment pipelines across our IBMi systems. This is not a development-heavy role — we are looking for a DevOps expert familiar with IBMi/AS400 who can assess current workflows, propose a target architecture, and accelerate environment delivery cycles. You will act as a player-coach, offering technical leadership while executing critical improvements hands-on.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assess current IBMi deployment practices and environments, identifying bottlenecks and optimization opportunities
• Deliver a comprehensive strategy by Q2 end with 5+ actionable recommendations to reduce developer cycle time
• Evaluate modern DevOps tooling and recommend 3+ midrange pipeline enhancements targeting 15% delivery speed improvement
• Lead pilot implementations of these improvements and measure impact
• Propose infrastructure and CI/CD strategies spanning cloud (public/private), containers, and automated testing
• Define and visualize a roadmap to transition from current to target state
• Mentor junior staff and help build a supporting team
Preferred Qualifications:
• Has strong DevOps experience specifically with IBMi / AS400
• Proven experience with automated deployments, change management, and environment strategy
• Can assess, design, and implement end-to-end CI/CD pipelines in IBMi ecosystems
• Understands legacy systems and has experience in enterprise modernization
• Comfortable working across cross-functional teams and driving organizational change
• Experience in financial services environments is a major plus
• Excellent communicator and visual thinker (you’ll be collaborating with leadership including the CTO)
Nice-to-Haves:
• Prior experience at IBM or as an IBMi consultant
• Experience with IBM-Z systems
• Based in or near Evansville, IN (current data center location)
• Familiarity with tools such as Rocket Aldon, Jenkins, RDi, Ansible, Docker, or similar CI/CD and infrastructure tools
