Role description
Software Development Engineer 2 Job Summary: Talent Software Services is in search of a Software Development Engineer for a contract position in Redmond, WA. The opportunity will be six months with a strong chance for a long-term extension.
Position Summary: The main function of a software engineer is to apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. A typical software engineer researches, designs, develops and tests operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for medical, industrial, military, communications, aerospace, business, scientific and general computing applications.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Modify existing databases and database management systems.
Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of the database to the management system or direct others in coding descriptions.
Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish the project.
Assist in Automation Development: Support the creation and maintenance of scripts and automation tools under the guidance of senior engineers or automation leads supporting Business Operations & Strategic Initiatives.
Testing & Validation: Execute test cases for automation scripts, report issues, and assist in troubleshooting to ensure reliability and accuracy.
Companies/3rd Party Tooling Configuration: Configure and maintain integration between 3rd Party Tooling, web-based applications with existing companies' systems (e.g. Teams, Power Platform, etc.).
Lead End-To-End Tooling Development: gather requirements, build, test, deploy and provide ongoing support, including continuous improvement.
The purpose of this team is to support multiple business units across AI, including supporting engineering, product, and leadership to help teams operate effectively at scale. The team sits at the intersection of strategy and execution-driving clarity, enabling collaboration, and turning complex initiatives into actionable outcomes.
This role may support additional teams here and there, but will largely support this team. This role will support the software management team by building solutions to get their first-party systems to talk to third-party systems. This role will design these systems and build them out end-to-end, including gathering requirements, building, testing, launching, and integrating and improving these solutions after launch for process improvement and automation to help scale key business activities.
The solutions will primarily bring in third-party data so it can talk to first-party data, including setting up tools reporting from third-party tools into Power BI and Excel to support workflow automation.
The role will consist of 90% supporting the bizops team, 10% supporting other team or ad hoc. The majority of the role will be heads down building solutions, but there will be occasional meetings to gather requirements and sync on next steps.
Qualifications:
Years of Experience Required: 2-4 overall years of experience in the field.
Degrees or certifications required: A Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required.
The ideal resume would contain previous experience as a solutions architect, especially going through the software development life cycle independently.
Previous experience in process improvement/iterative improvement and automation is nice to see.
The ideal candidate is a problem solver, thinks through things and insists on the best standards to build out something needed and improve on it.
Minimum 4 years of experience with development within tools: Microsoft Entra Admin, Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Bi, Power App) MS Teams, M365, Azure DevOps, Copilot Studio (Agent creation), MSFT Graph Explorer.
Minimum 1 year of experience with integrating and pulling data from third-party applications and APIs, with an ability to integrate with the company's tools
Minimum 2 years of experience with scripting (e.g., Python, HTML, PowerShell, Visual Studio Code or similar) and coding languages (e.g., C#/HTML)
Preferred: Verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
Basic ability to work independently and manage one's time.
Basic knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.
Basic ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues.
Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software.
Knowledge of computer development software as it relates to systems, such as SQL, VisualBasic, etc.
