Role description
We are seeking a highly skilled Linux‑focused DevOps/SRE Engineer to support large‑scale virtualization efforts across the cable network environment. This role is part of a team virtualizing traditional CMTS hardware into a modern virtualized EMTS platform and supporting the rollout of RPHY and Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) technologies. This initiative is part of NGAN’s effort to build the world’s first distributed access architecture cable system, enabling higher speeds, more bandwidth capacity, and improved reliability through virtualization. This position blends hands‑on Linux work, scripting, automation, and device configuration with Site Reliability Engineering concepts such as monitoring, scalability, and operational efficiency. You will also contribute to digital transformation efforts, supporting multiple product teams while helping automate and scale cloud‑based and on‑prem virtualization environments. Key Responsibilities:
Support VCMTS and RPHY turn‑ups across the country using established operational processes.
Stand up virtualized EMTS environments by running Linux scripts and preparing system configurations.
Create, validate, and maintain custom JSON configuration files for new deployments.
Troubleshoot issues such as latency, disconnections, slow speeds, and device performance impairments.
Assist with outage response, device configuration, and incident remediation in a production environment.
Build automation to analyze device data, detect impairments/outages, and trigger remediation workflows.
Contribute to SRE initiatives, including automation, monitoring, scalability, and infrastructure improvements.
Partner with Digital Transformation product teams to support deployments, troubleshooting, and operational needs (20–50% support).
Design and implement monitoring solutions to ensure reliability and performance of virtualized services.
Define infrastructure and system requirements using SRE best practices.
Manage JIRA tickets and maintain accurate documentation throughout deployment cycles.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in IT, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
Approximately 2–3+ years of relevant technical experience.
Strong hands‑on Linux experience (top requirement).
Proficiency with Python or Bash scripting for automation.
Ability to create and work with JSON configuration files.
Experience running Linux scripts to deploy or configure systems.
Exposure to Kubernetes and/or Docker.
Solid troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Networking fundamentals (not SME‑level, but a strong plus).
Comfort working in CLI‑driven environments across multiple vendors.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting cloud or virtualized environments (AWS exposure is a plus).
3+ years coding in Python or Ruby.
Knowledge of monitoring/observability tooling and automation frameworks.
Background as a Linux Administrator or experience setting up networks.
Experience with CI/CD, release automation, or scaling cloud‑based applications.
3+ years experience with business process or technology implementation.
