Role description
Job Title: Infrastructure Migration & Automation Enablement Engineer
Location: Remote
Duration: 6+ month contract (potential extension/renewal)
Pay Range: $55-65/hr. (or higher/negotiable based on experience)
Summary:
Verigent's client is seeking an Infrastructure Migration & Automation Enablement Engineer to support a large-scale data center modernization initiative. This role focuses on helping application teams migrate their infrastructure from a legacy data center into a new Nutanix-based environment. The engineer will guide teams in adopting Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform and GitLab, enabling consistent, automated, and compliant infrastructure delivery.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with application teams to plan and guide migrations into a new Nutanix-based data center environment.
• Act as the primary liaison between app teams, automation engineers, and enterprise architecture to ensure consistent use of IaC automation.
• Help app teams consume and configure pre-built Terraform modules through GitLab pipelines, aligning deployments with enterprise-approved patterns.
• Maintain a catalog of published IaC modules and automation components, documenting their capabilities and advising on proper usage.
• Identify opportunities for new automation, request their development, and track their availability for broader adoption.
• Translate enterprise architectural diagrams into actionable IaC strategies for application teams, ensuring alignment across infrastructure layers.
• Develop and maintain "quick-start" GitLab pipelines that demonstrate proven infrastructure patterns for common deployment needs.
Qualifications:
• Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure components (compute, networking, storage, identity, and virtualization).
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code principles and experience using Terraform and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Nutanix or similar hypervisor and virtualization platforms.
• Ability to interpret complex architecture designs and assist teams in converting them into automation-ready implementations.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and cross-team collaboration.
• Familiarity with infrastructure resiliency concepts (e.g. load balancing, high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and multi-cluster operation).
• Comfortable working across diverse teams and bridging technical and non-technical conversations.
• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux (RHEL) environments.
• Understanding of shared storage systems (NAS, SMB, NFS), directory services (Active Directory), and enterprise scheduling (e.g., Control-M).
