Role Requirements & Ideal Profile β€’ Windows and Unix/Linux roles require a hybrid skill set: β€’ Strong systems administration (Active Directory, Windows, Linux, provisioning, VMware, data protection) β€’ 4 5 years of cloud exposure β€’ GCP preferred β€’ AWS or Azure backgrounds are acceptable if supported by migration experience or relevant project work (GCE knowledge is a strong plus) Summary The Cloud Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, and operating enterprise compute platforms across a hybrid environment spanning on-prem data centers and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role focuses heavily on Google Compute Engine (GCE), cloud-native hypervisors, VMware virtualization, Unix OS and workload migrations across cloud and on-prem environments. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can translate architectural designs into scalable, automated, and production-ready solutions while driving standardization, automation, and operational excellence across Linux-based environments and IBM Power Systems platforms. Duties And Responsibilities β€’ Design, build, and support compute platforms across hybrid environments, including on-prem data centers and Google Cloud (GCE). β€’ Engineer and manage cloud-native and traditional virtualization platforms, including GCE, VMware (vSphere/vCenter), and IBM Power Systems (PowerVM). β€’ Lead and execute migrations across environments (on-prem to cloud, cloud-to-cloud), leveraging tools such as VMware HCX and native cloud migration frameworks. β€’ Support and maintain IBM Power Systems infrastructure, including AIX-based workloads and integrations within hybrid environments. β€’ Translate high-level architecture designs into fully implemented, production-ready infrastructure solutions. β€’ Manage and optimize hybrid infrastructure environments, ensuring scalability, resiliency, and performance. β€’ Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using industry-standard tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.) to enable repeatable and automated deployments. β€’ Drive automation initiatives across provisioning, configuration management, patching, and operational workflows. β€’ Build, configure, and maintain Linux-based systems across multiple distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE), with AIX knowledge considered a strong advantage. β€’ Support and manage enterprise OS environments, including OS tuning, patching, security hardening, and lifecycle management. β€’ Partner with middleware, application, and DevOps teams to align infrastructure capabilities with application requirements. β€’ Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, promoting best practices and engineering standards. β€’ Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for infrastructure incidents and drive long-term stability improvements. β€’ Ensure compliance with enterprise standards, security policies, and configuration baselines. β€’ Participate in on-call rotation and provide support for critical production systems as needed. Skills And Competencies β€’ Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with deep focus on Google Compute Engine (GCE). β€’ Deep understanding of cloud-native hypervisors vs. traditional virtualization platforms. β€’ Advanced experience with VMware technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, and HCX migration capabilities. β€’ Hands-on experience with IBM Power Systems (Power Series), including PowerVM and AIX operating systems. β€’ Proven ability to manage and operate hybrid cloud environments (on-prem + cloud). β€’ Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) and automation frameworks. β€’ Deep knowledge of Linux operating systems across multiple distributions; AIX expertise highly desirable. β€’ Strong understanding of compute, storage, and networking fundamentals across both x86 and Power architectures. β€’ Experience implementing and optimizing automation-first engineering practices. β€’ Ability to convert architectural designs into deployable solutions with strong attention to execution quality. β€’ Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams (applications, middleware, networking, security). β€’ Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and pride in delivering high-quality engineering outcomes. β€’ Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers, driving technical capability uplift across the team. Qualifications β€’ Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience. β€’ 5 8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud engineering, or platform operations. β€’ Hands-on experience with GCP or major cloud platforms (AWS/Azure transferable). β€’ Experience with VMware virtualization and enterprise Linux environments. β€’ Exposure to hybrid environments and multi-platform infrastructure (x86 + Power Systems preferred). Preferred Qualifications β€’ Experience with IBM Power Systems and AIX administration in enterprise environments. β€’ Experience with VMware HCX and large-scale migration programs. β€’ Experience with multi-cloud environments and cloud migration strategies. β€’ Strong background in automation, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines. β€’ Experience with enterprise-scale infrastructure design and implementation. β€’ Exposure to FinOps, capacity planning, and infrastructure optimization.
