Job Summary:
The Strategic Data Modeler is responsible for delivering transparency into the current-state operational processes, data flows, and data lineage, while translating strategic business objectives into future-state operational and data models. This role plays a critical part in shaping a unified data model across the organization, supporting client onboarding applications and related platforms within the financial services domain.
This is a strategic, individual-contributor role that blends strong data modeling expertise with business acumen and process thinking. The position is hybrid, requiring 4-days onsite in Lake Mary, FL.
Key Responsibilities:
• Current & Future State Data Modeling: Analyze existing (“as-is”) operational processes, data structures, and data lineage, and design future-state (“to-be”) data models aligned with strategic objectives.
• Unified Data Model Development: Lead efforts to evaluate, define, and document a unified data model across applications and lines of business, ensuring consistency, clarity, and scalability.
• Data Architecture & Gap Analysis: Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and inconsistencies in current data architecture and propose actionable, strategic solutions to address them.
• Process & Data Flow Mapping: Model complex operational and data flows, documenting how processes, schemas, and lineage connect across systems and applications.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Independently interview business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business requirements into logical and physical data representations.
• Governance & Design Oversight: Contribute to data governance by influencing design standards and architectural direction, while remaining hands-off on implementation.
• Strategic Solutioning: Align data modeling and architecture improvements with organizational goals, regulatory considerations, and long-term strategy.
• Documentation & Communication: Produce clear, concise documentation of data models, architecture decisions, and improvement plans, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
• Collaboration with Technical Teams: Work closely with engineers, architects, and data professionals, understanding technical language and constraints to ensure effective solutioning.
• Emerging Technology Awareness: Incorporate awareness of AI-driven solutions and emerging data technologies into modeling and solution design.
Qualifications:
• 5–7 years of experience in data modeling, data architecture, or related roles
• Proven experience translating business concepts and requirements into logical and physical data models
• Strong understanding of database design, data architecture principles, and data lineage
• Experience with data schema design and process modeling
• Proficiency with at least one major data modeling or process modeling tool (e.g., iGrafx, Visio, or similar)
• Strong business acumen with the ability to connect data models to business outcomes
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Self-starter with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience:
• Background in financial services, banking, or regulated environments
• Exposure to enterprise data strategy or architecture initiatives
