Role description
PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION. WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR FULL STACK / UI ENGINEERS. WE ARE LOOKING FORBACK END DEVELOPERS WITH 1-2+ YEARS OF FRONT OFFICE BANKING EXPERIENCE.
About Phi Partners:
Phi Partners is a boutique technology consulting firm providing services and products to Investment Banks, Hedge Funds, and Asset Management firms. Headquartered in London, with a global presence in key financial hubs like New York and Paris, Phi specialises in FO and Risk technology. Our niche focus on these domains has been a differentiator and gateway into the worldβs best-known financial institutions.
On the back of growing demand for our services overseas, we have opened an entity in the USA in 2024 and are experiencing a period of high growth in this region across multiple areas, especially Front Office Pricing and Risk Technology Services.
About the Client:
We are currently supporting the Global Markets Technology division of a well-known global banking giant with operations across Europe and the Americas. This division is responsible for the technology infrastructure behind some of the clientβs most strategic business areas, including Front Office trading, risk management, and portfolio optimisation.
At a time when many institutions are consolidating, this group is undergoing rapid expansion, with consistent record breaking revenue growth year-on-year since 2020. The client has been leveraging its unique market access across the broader Americas region, and as a result has seen particularly high growth in the US, where the New York branch has seen major acquisitions and headcount growth in recent years.
About the Programme:
Our client, a leading global investment bank, is running a long-term initiative within their Front Office eTrading department to enhance its electronic trading capabilities specifically across Rates and Credit. The programme focuses on delivering low-latency, high-capacity solutions with improvements in ECN connectivity, pricing, RFQ processing, and straight-through processing.
This role sits within the front-office technology team, where youβll work directly with traders and quants on hands on coding and design. Itβs a chance to contribute to a high-profile platform that underpins core trading activity, with a strong emphasis on performance, scalability, and business impact.
Roles and Responsibilities:
β’ Design, code and test changes across ECN connectivity, pricing, RFQ and STP components
β’ Take responsibility for low latency, high throughput and deterministic software solutions(messaging, caching,
data structures, concurrency)
β’ Profile and tune JVM/runtime characteristics (GC, memory, threading) or equivalent for C++
β’ Collaborate with traders, quants, sales and production support to deliver resilient releases
β’ Contribute to CI/CD best practices (pipelines, quality gates, coverage, security scanning)
β’ Create clear runbooks, metrics and alerts to improve operability and support
Key Skills:
Necessary skills:
β’ Server-side Java and/or C++, with Python for tooling/automation
β’ Experience with Messaging (Solace, Kafka, Aeron, MQ)
β’ Previous experience with SQL (MS SQL, Oracle) and data-access performance tuning
β’ Familiarity with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, UrbanCode (or equivalent CI/CD)
β’ Strong communication with globally distributed business and technology teams
Nice To Have:
β’ Experience with cloud-native solutions such as AWS services
β’ 2+ years building applications for Fixed Income, Equities or FX platforms
β’ Previous experience with caching (e.g., Redis) and advanced performance diagnostics
Next steps:
This is an excellent opportunity to embed within a front-office engineering team delivering tangible trading impact in a high-visibility environment. Please submit your resume here. Please make sure you have read the full JD.
