Job: FinOps Lead Cloud Engineer
Location: London, UK
Working type: Hybrid (once a week in City Centre office)
Salary: £600 Per Day / £115k Per Year
Contract Terms: 12 months Min (Role can also be on a perm basis)

We are looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer for a FinOps Lead job. You will join our DevSec Ops platform team, focusing on bringing proficient cloud cost optimisation to our customers. This role combines deep cloud financial management expertise with hands-on technical knowledge to optimise costs, streamline operations and ensure successful client onboarding. You will serve as the FinOps operations expert embedded within our technical team, facilitating cost optimisation initiatives while maintaining security and compliance standards.
Some of the required experience we are looking for include:
• 5+ years of experience in cloud financial management, with at least 3 years focused on AWS
• Proven track record of achieving significant cost savings in an enterprise AWS environment
• Robust knowledge of cloud architecture principles and IaC
• Proficiency with FinOps tools like AWS Cost Explorer, CloudWatch, and other third-party tools
• Deep knowledge of AWS pricing structures across compute, storage, networking, and database services
• Experience with automation and scripting tools such as Python or Bash
• Experience implementing tagging strategies and cost allocation frameworks
• Awareness of financial concepts, including TCO, ROI and budget forecasting
• FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP), or willingness to obtain within 6 months
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar certification
• Masters Degree in a related field
• Experience with IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
• Background in DevSecOps or platform engineering
• Experience with Kubernetes and container cost optimisation
• Have a proactive approach to identifying and addressing cost optimisation opportunities
• Customer-focused mindset with experience in client-facing roles
Key responsibilities & duties include:
• Collaborate with architects to design cost-efficient, scalable solutions
• Evaluate and recommend optimal AWS service selections based on cost-performance analysis
• Analyse and optimise compute and storage costs across existing tenant environments, implementing cost allocation strategies and chargeback models when necessary
• Create automated cost anomaly detection and alerting mechanisms
• Create customised cost optimisation strategies based on client workload patterns
• Maintain a deep comprehension of AWS pricing models, including Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot Instances, and volume discounts
• Stay current with AWS pricing changes and new service offerings
• Define and implement other FinOps best practices and governance policies
