Role description

Position Title:
FRACTIONAL CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER
Reporting Relationships:
Direct Manager: MANAGING PARTNER
Strategic Responsibility:
The fCMO will serve as the lead engagement executive responsible for developing and implementing the strategic marketing transformation for designated clients. The fCMO will join the management and leadership team within the clientβs organization and oversee the outlined workstreams associated with our 4-step marketing transformation process as outlined in the signed proposal and contract.
These four steps include 1) marketing audit and assessment; 2) development of the business and go-to-market strategy; 3) creation and implementation of initiatives and tactics and 4) assessment and optimization of marketing performance.
The fCMO will need to flex their management, oversight, and executional talents between the clientβs organization, the use of outsourced resources (agencies and freelancers) and his/her own skills and talents to affect the necessary results desired within the timeline of the engagement. Client success ultimately depends on the fCMOβs ability to find and implement quick wins from day one while transforming the marketing function for long-term sustainable growth across the timeline of the engagement.
Position Requirements:
Formal Education:
β’ Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Master's degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
β’ 20+ years of experience in marketing, attaining a minimum position of Vice President, ideally CMO, with a minimum of 5 years leading the B2C marketing organization within an organization.
β’ Experience with demonstrated success in digital marketing, branding, and strategic planning.
β’ Demonstrated executive presence working with C-Suite executives, boards, and leadership teams.
β’ A proven, trusted, and motivating leader of teams.
β’ Experience working for law firms, professional services, or financial services.
Required Skills:
A) Detailed understanding of digital marketing strategies, tactics, and tools, including those specifically related to driving search rankings:
β’ Knowledge and use of Google Analytics (GA4) to analyze patterns and results
β’ Understanding Google Business Profile and best practices to drive local SEO.
β’ Knowledge and understanding of website and SEO analytics utilizing SEMRUSH
β’ Experience in analyzing and driving organic search results
β’ Experience in building the right data visualization dashboards to deliver performance reporting and drive effective decision-making
B) Expertise in analyzing, strategizing and implementing paid media to drive market awareness and leads including:
β’ Paid search through Google
β’ Broadcast and Connected TV and their retargeting technologies
β’ Best practices for retargeting across social media platforms
β’ Driving thought leadership via blogs, podcasts, and social media (LinkedIn)
C) Strategic thinking and expertise in identifying and developing strategic approaches to growth and marketing planning, including:
β’ Brand positioning, branding, and messaging hierarchy
β’ Competitive analysis and differentiation
β’ Strategic outline and development of a documented go-to-market strategy
D) Demonstrated executive presence and executive functioning & communication skills to deliver client success:
β’ Ability to hold their own in front of challenging business owners and their partners
β’ Proven track record of lobbying for change within an organization
β’ Proactive and effective written and verbal communication skills with C-Suite executives
β’ Demonstrated ability to document strategies, processes, recommendations, and plans
E.) Demonstrated leader or organizations and teams:
β’ Ability to collaborate to build a better way forward and align others behind it.
β’ Proven track record of managing and coaching a marketing organization.
β’ Ability to bring out the best performance in direct reports and those around them.
