Job Title: Gas Measurement Specialist

Location: Detroit MI 48226
The Planet Group is seeking a Gas Measurement Specialist to be an individual contributor role is responsible for validating gas measurement data to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with industry standards. The position supports large-volume customers, pipeline interconnects, and production metering locations, while contributing to lost and unaccounted for (LAUF) gas analysis and reduction efforts.
The role requires strong analytical capabilities, collaboration with field operations, and the ability to defend data-driven decisions.
Key Responsibilities
• Validate gas measurement data for accuracy and timeliness using measurement systems and established standards.
• Identify anomalies and potential errors through data analysis and trend monitoring.
• Partner with field operations to troubleshoot and resolve equipment or measurement issues.
• Support enhancements to gas measurement systems to maintain compliance with evolving company and industry standards.
• Prepare and deliver volumetric reports for internal stakeholders and external customers.
• Evaluate customer usage data, including volume corrector instruments (VCI), to ensure accurate measurement.
• Perform daily and monthly system balancing analyses to identify and reduce lost gas (LAUF).
• Develop and implement billing correction strategies within SAP, collaborating with cross-functional teams as needed.
• Gather feedback from upstream and downstream stakeholders to improve service delivery.
• Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects focused on improving measurement processes and systems.
• Make moderate to complex decisions with occasional guidance from leadership.
• Provide informal mentoring and share best practices with team members as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in gas measurement, utilities, or data analytics
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with utility accounting practices
• Working knowledge of gas transmission, distribution, and gathering systems
Technical & Professional Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database systems
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large, complex datasets
• Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
• Ability to clearly justify and defend data analysis and adjustment decisions
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities
• Familiarity with industry and company gas measurement standards
