Role description
Role- GCP Cloud Engineer Location- Birmingham/Manchester, UK (Hybrid) Employment type-Contract Key Accountabilities Responsibilities will include: β€’ Deploying, configuring and securing backend REST API services using CSP native services. β€’ Deploying, configuring and securing containerised application runtimes using Infrastructure as Code. β€’ Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with DevOps and Security teams, focusing on traceability and regulatory controls. β€’ Managing, monitoring, and optimising cloud infrastructure across GCP, ensuring performance, resilience, cost-efficiency, and data security. β€’ Collaborating closely with infrastructure, architecture, and cybersecurity teams to meet internal risk, compliance, and governance requirements. β€’ Supporting live systems, conducting root cause analysis, fixing bugs and implementing solutions for incidents and performance bottlenecks. Qualifications and experience The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications: β€’ A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience. β€’ A background in Cloud Engineering with infrastructure experience. β€’ Over 5 years of development experience, focusing on large-scale, distributed systems. β€’ Hands-on experience with GCP, including CSP native services, networking, IAM, databases (PostgreSQL) and cost optimization. Experience with other cloud providers such as AWS is advantageous. β€’ Proven experience with DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI), and containerization. β€’ A strong understanding of security principles in cloud and enterprise systems. β€’ Familiarity with audit and compliance considerations in regulated industries, particularly finance or banking. β€’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively to diverse audiences. β€’ A successful track record of delivering complex projects and/or programmes, using appropriate techniques and tools to ensure and measure success. Essential Skills β€’ Demonstrable experience of: β€’ Public Cloud. β€’ Infrastructure build and configurations for services including Compute, Storage, Networking. β€’ Linux. β€’ Relational and NoSQL databases. β€’ Integration services such as messaging and streams. β€’ Building RESTful API Services.
