GCP Cloud Engineer – HIRING ASAP
Start date: ASAP
Duration: 12-month contract
Location: 3 days in Birmingham office and 2 days working from home
Rate: £500 - £550 per day inside ir35
Summary
Our client seeks a driven and seasoned GCP Cloud Engineer to aid in the development of services on Public Cloud Platforms. Utilise your Cloud Engineering expertise and DevOps skills across GCP to deploy and configure robust backend services, automate infrastructure, and employ CSP native services. This role offers the chance to work on impactful systems within a secure, high availability setting at a leading global financial institution.
Responsibilities
• Deploying, configuring, and securing backend REST API services using CSP native services.
• Deploying, configuring, and securing containerised application runtimes using Infrastructure as Code.
• Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with DevOps and Security teams, focusing on traceability and regulatory controls.
• Managing, monitoring, and optimising cloud infrastructure across GCP, ensuring performance, resilience, cost-efficiency, and data security.
• Collaborating closely with infrastructure, architecture, and cybersecurity teams to meet internal risk, compliance, and governance requirements.
• Supporting live systems, conducting root cause analysis, fixing bugs, and implementing solutions for incidents and performance bottlenecks.
Key Skills
• Over 5 years of development experience, focusing on large-scale, distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with GCP, including CSP native services, networking, IAM, databases (PostgreSQL) and cost optimization. Experience with other cloud providers such as AWS is advantageous.
• Proven experience with DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI), and containerization.
• A strong understanding of security principles in cloud and enterprise systems.
• Infrastructure build and configurations for services including Compute, Storage, Networking.

• Relational and NoSQL databases.
• Integration services such as messaging and streams.
• Building RESTful API Services.
• Containerisation, Kubernetes, serverless functions.
• Microservices and distributed tracing.
• Enterprise logging, monitoring, and alerting frameworks (e.g., ELK, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Automation scripting (using languages such as Terraform, Ansible etc.).
• Experience with Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD) and continuous testing tools.
• Experience working within an Agile environment.
• A good understanding of cryptography (authentication, data encryption).
• The ability to quickly acquire new skills and tools.
• Good non-functional testing experience.
Desirable Skills
• Experience working in financial services or other regulated environments.
• Programming experience in Python and Golang.
• GCP certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Engineer / GCP Cloud DevOps Engineer)
