GCP Engineer with Java Vert.x

Job Title: GCP Engineer with Java Vert.x / Development Lead Location: Phoenix, AZ (Onsite) Job Type: Long Term Contract Job Description: We are looking for a strong GCP Engineer / Dev Lead who can contribute to a highly visible and time-bound initiative. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working as an independent contributor while also guiding a small team when needed. Key skills we are looking for: • Strong GCP experience • Java Vert.x experience • Experience with Kafka and Pub/Sub integrations • Working experience with Java-based microservices • Spark / Dataproc experience • Experience designing scalable and resilient distributed systems Nice to have: • Python development experience • Prior AMEX LUMI experience LUMI experience would be a significant advantage, as we are working against aggressive timelines and are looking to minimize onboarding and upskilling time for both the incoming resource and the existing engineering team. In addition to technical skills, we are specifically looking for someone who can operate independently and proactively. The candidate should be comfortable engaging directly with platform/framework teams to resolve technical blockers, drive follow-ups, and navigate dependencies without requiring constant guidance from our team. Strong ownership, communication, and problem-solving skills are extremely important for this role. We are looking to move quickly on this request and will be timeboxing the evaluation process while also engaging multiple partners in parallel. Role: The primary need for this role will be building data pipelines and integration services on GCP. However, we are specifically looking for someone who also has hands-on experience building and supporting microservices on GCP, and not someone who has worked only as a pure pipeline engineer. This role will involve developing services that consume data from Kafka and publish to Pub/Sub, so practical experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed application development is important.
