Geographic Information Systems Consultant

Role Objective The team is responsible for developing and supporting tools and workflows for data quality and operations of Google’s core online Geo products, primarily Google Maps. The Tools Manager is the liaison between the Operations team and Engineering team and responsible for ensuring the smooth technical functioning of the Ops teams with tools and workflows development. Role & Responsibilities • Analyse and resolve tools and/or software problems: Diagnose and resolve complex problems discovered in tools/ products • Act as a technology expert for Geo Operators and Program Managers, removing technical obstacles and resolving user reported problems. • Work closely with Geo program management and software engineering teams to appropriately file bugs and escalate issues, ensure reproducibility and clearly communicate user issues • Coordinate tools releases and new updates • Test tool fixes/changes/new features for engineers • Submit code changes for tools • Develop new tools/Dashboard as needed by the teams • Diagnose global geo problems related to software, linux and windows • Responds to support tickets for technical issues (bugs, latency, tool issues) and performs debugging and analysis and escalates bugs that negatively impact operations according to the thresholds established in a timely and clear way. Experience / Skills • 15 years’ experience in GIS experience • Expert on FME and ArcGIS suite of products • At least 5 years of Project Management experience, preferably Agile • At least 10 years of experience leading technical teams on a fast pace environment • Scripting knowledge, preferably with Python experience and/or SQL. JavaScript is a plus, but not required • Master degree • Technological savviness • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to operate and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the business. • Comfortable with a rapidly-changing environment • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail • Able to work independently, motivated, proactive attitude with a passion for learning and creative problem solving.
