Job Title: GIS Database Administrator (Enterprise DBA)
Location: Tallahassee, FL.Duration: 4 Months with possible renewal for another 12 months.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced GIS Database Administrator (Enterprise DBA) to support a state agency in Tallahassee, FL. This role will focus on managing, designing, and optimizing enterprise databases across SQL Server, Oracle, and GIS platforms while ensuring alignment with Florida Digital Services (FLDS) security standards. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in spatial databases, enterprise database administration, and ArcGIS environments, with proven experience supporting large-scale government or public sector systems.
Key Responsibilities
The selected resource will:
Perform daily operational database administration activities for SQL Server, Oracle, and GIS databases
Plan, design, implement, and support enterprise database structures
Monitor, tune, and optimize database performance
Develop and maintain database administration procedures and documentation
Conduct SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL code reviews
Assist in designing and optimizing database schemas to meet system requirements
Support GIS data architecture and spatial database management
Collaborate with Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Data Analysts
Assist with training and mentoring junior technical staff
Ensure compliance with FLDS security and departmental standards
Perform additional database or infrastructure activities as needed
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of combined experience as a Database Administrator
Hands-on experience with GIS and spatial databases (PostgreSQL & Oracle)
Strong experience with SQL Server 2012+
Strong experience with Oracle 19c+
Experience managing ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online
Knowledge of ESRI SDE Geodatabases
Ability to design, analyze, and optimize relational databases
Experience troubleshooting large enterprise production database issues
Strong documentation and communication skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with Azure SQL
Experience with cloud-hosted GIS services and Azure GIS integrations
Prior experience working with state or government agencies
Education
Bachelorβs Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, GIS, or related field, OR equivalent work experience
