Position: GIS Specialist
Location: Trenton, NJ

Position Summary
The GIS Specialist will lead and oversee geographic information system (GIS) activities, managing complex projects involving the design, implementation, and maintenance of spatial data and mapping systems. The role involves coordinating with internal teams to support data analysis, visualization, and reporting needs.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 8 years of professional experience in GIS, including work with computer graphics and hardware digitizing procedures, with at least 1 year of independent coordination and analysis of computerized geographic survey data.
OR
Bachelorβs degree and 4 years of professional GIS experience (including 1 year of independent coordination and analysis).
OR
Masterβs degree in Geography or Environmental Science and 3 years of professional GIS experience (including 1 year of independent coordination and analysis).
OR
Bachelorβs degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or related field with 12 semester hours in computer mapping/GIS (including spatial programming and digital image processing) and 3 years of related experience.
Core Skills
Strong understanding of cartography, including scale and projection transformation
Knowledge of geography, data visualization, and GIS applications
Experience in map and graphic design, both manual and computerized
Familiarity with database management, digitization, and map production techniques
Ability to use and troubleshoot computer graphics hardware and software
Strong command of data entry, data transmission, and reformatting processes
Desired Skills
Knowledge of statistical analysis tools and multivariate statistical methods
Familiarity with graphic reproduction techniques (slide preparation, photographic enlargement/reduction)
Proficiency with computer operating systems and mapping/graphics software packages
Experience with remote sensing data and spatial image processing
Understanding of environmental and natural resource data analysis
Key Responsibilities
Lead GIS projects from planning through implementation and completion
Supervise and coordinate GIS data creation, analysis, and reporting activities
Collaborate with internal teams to meet spatial and analytical data needs
Develop and maintain detailed GIS documentation and technical reports
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project data standards
Support map production, visualization, and spatial analysis for decision-making
