Role description
The Enterprise Asset Management Value Realization Department is seeking a skilled GIS professional to provide technical support for key initiatives. This role is central to improving data quality, developing GIS applications, and supporting Rail Engineering projects across various agencies. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who can transform complex data into actionable insights and tools.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, write, and maintain code (primarily Python & SQL) to perform spatial and standard analysis, combining and transforming datasets to meet business needs.
• Design, create, and publish reports and dashboards using tools like Power BI, GIS Maps, and other data visualization platforms.
• Perform statistical and geospatial analyses on a wide range of asset and transportation datasets.
• Deconstruct complex business problems from senior management into discrete, solvable tasks and projects.
• Apply rigorous quality controls to ensure the accuracy and usability of all data outputs.
• Thoroughly document all work, including code, processes, and findings, for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Manage database designs and support GIS software applications, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcPro, Experience Builder, and Survey123.
• Stay current with emerging trends in data science, GIS techniques, and programming languages.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• A minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience in custom GIS development, with a focus on asset management and/or transportation.
• 5+ years of direct experience supporting the ESRI software suite, including Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Desktop/ArcPro.
• Proficiency in programming for data analytics, with strong skills in Python and SQL.
• Strong skills in database design, management, and data proficiency.
• Proven ability to perform geospatial and statistical analysis.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex issues.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Management, Statistics, Mathematics, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience within the Railroad or Transit industry.
• Experience with HeXagon (now Intergraph) software and Microsoft Dynamics.
• Familiarity with the subway, bus, and railroad networks.
• Experience with business intelligence tools like Tableau or Web Focus.
• Knowledge of analytical methods, algorithm design, and KPI/metrics development.
• Familiarity with transportation planning theory and practice in large-scale transit systems.
• Project management experience and the ability to help lead team-based projects.
