Your role in helping us shape the future:
U.S. News & World Report is seeking a Health Data Analyst to help develop and refine methodologies to evaluate thousands of U.S. hospitals and other healthcare providers. You will develop analytical programs to process large healthcare data sets and generate deliverables for publication on www.usnews.com/hospitals. You may work on developing novel hospital performance measures, refining existing measures, and maintaining and expanding U.S. News & World Reportβs portfolio of hospital and healthcare ratings. Every member of the team has a hand in shaping the evolution of the analytical methods that inform potentially life-altering healthcare decisions made by millions of usnews.com users each year.
In addition to getting significant public visibility, the results of your work will be closely followed by diverse healthcare stakeholders, including leaders of health systems. You will have opportunities to engage with healthcare executives, researchers and clinicians, and your work will drive change in healthcare.
On a day to day basis, you will write and review code to manage large Medicare administrative claims data sets and data from other sources, collaborate with other members of the analytics team, develop and refine quality measures applicable in a variety of healthcare settings, and combine these metrics into meaningful evaluations of healthcare providers. You will report to the Senior Health Data Scientist, a Ph.D.-level leader.

You should have:
β’ Masterβs degree or multiple years of professional experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, health economics or similar quantitative field
β’ A high degree of comfort with cleaning and managing of data sets containing millions of records
β’ A grasp of modeling and statistical principles relevant to quality measurement
β’ Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with peers and senior leaders
β’ Ability to communicate methods concepts to people with non-technical backgrounds internally and externally
β’ High level of proficiency in Stata, Python, SAS and/or R. Most coding is done in Stata, and some in R or Python.
β’ Attention to detail, strong communication, organizational and time management skills
It would be nice if you had:
β’ Experience analyzing Medicare claims or other administrative healthcare data sets
β’ Research experience in health equity, social determinants of health, or health disparities
β’ Experience collecting and validating primary data
β’ Knowledge of multilevel models and/or confirmatory factor analysis or other structural equation models
β’ Subject matter knowledge in any area of clinical care
