Role: Lead Data Scientist
W2 Contract-to-Hire: 12 Months
Location: Hybrid in Columbia, MD
• 2 times per month in the client location on their own expenses
Overview:
Position your career at the forefront of healthcare innovation! We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join a dynamic team in the healthcare sector that is actively transitioning into the world of Artificial Intelligence. In this role, you will help bridge the gap between advanced data mining and future AI capabilities. The client's foundational data environment is already established, and they are looking for an expert on the ground to conduct research, drive proofs of concept (POCs), and guide them through the deployment of Large Language Models (LLMs). If you want an opportunity where you are not restricted by legacy business processes and can have a massive say in defining an enterprise AI model strategy, this is the launchpad for you.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct research and evaluate various AI/LLM models, features, and vendor pitches to determine the optimal deployment paths for the organization.
• Program and develop proofs of concept (POCs) to demonstrate AI capabilities and establish learning modules for future phases.
• Guide the business and technical teams through complex decision-making processes regarding AI model selection and strategy.
• Utilize advanced data mining techniques to manipulate, analyze, and extract insights from live data environments.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members, including business analysts and leadership, to align technical data solutions with organizational roadmaps.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field plus 8 years of relevant work experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required for a total of 12 years of experience.
• Proven, mandatory experience working within the Salesforce platform, as the core data infrastructure and native AI components reside here.
• Specialized healthcare industry experience focusing strictly on Provider Data (understanding its distinct differences from claims or standard operational data).
• Prior practical or conceptual knowledge of training, implementing, or deploying Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI capabilities.
• Strong communication and advisory skills, with the ability to act as a lead scientist rather than a purely technical consultant.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience evaluating third-party vendor AI product lines or integrations (such as Salesforce Agent, PWC modules, etc.).
• Experience working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced setting where data processes are built from the ground up.
