Role description
Overview
Weβre looking for a hands-on HP NonStop engineer to build and support real-time authorization services (think credit/debit approvals at the point of sale) and related batch integrations. Youβll design, code, test, and deploy robust COBOL/TAL solutions in a mission-critical, 24/7 financial environment.
What youβll do
β’ Design, develop, and deploy COBOL (and TAL) services on HP NonStop (HPNS) for high-throughput, low-latency authorization processing
β’ Support batch workflows ingesting flat files and SQL tables from mainframe systems
β’ Write clean, testable code; create unit/integration tests; participate in code reviews
β’ Optimize performance, reliability, and fault tolerance in a high-risk/always-on setting
β’ Own CI/CD workflows using Git and Jenkins; contribute to Agile ceremonies (Scrum/Kanban)
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Payments, Infrastructure, Security, Ops) to deliver compliant, resilient releases
Required skills & experience
β’ 8β10 years of software engineering experience, including deep HP NonStop (HPNS) expertise
β’ Strong proficiency in COBOL and TAL (Tandem Application Language); exposure to C is a plus
β’ Proven experience in financial services or similar 24/7, high-pressure operational environments
β’ Hands-on with DB2, Git, Jenkins, and Agile practices (Jira)
β’ Source code management using Control (not Endevor)
β’ Comfortable delivering in regulated, high-risk environments with strict SLAs
Nice to have
β’ Familiarity with JCL and REXX (for mainframe interactions)
β’ Experience integrating NonStop services with mainframe data pipelines and payments networks
β’ Performance tuning and observability on NonStop (monitoring, tracing, failover strategies)
