About the Client
Our client is seeking an experienced IT Resource Manager Consultant to provide strategic oversight of human capital allocation across their healthcare IT organization. This hybrid role is primarily remote with occasional in-person working sessions for key stakeholder meetings and planning activities.
Position Summary
We're looking for a strategic IT Resource Manager to balance Supply vs. Demand of technical talent across a complex healthcare IT environment. You'll ensure technical staff are assigned to the highest-priority initiatives while maintaining critical hospital systems, managing utilization rates, and identifying skill gaps. This role requires expertise in workforce planning, capacity modeling, and the unique demands of 24/7 healthcare IT operations including Epic implementations, HL7 integrations, and clinical application support.
Important: This role is not open to C2C or C2H arrangements and is only available to candidates legally authorized to work in the United States.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Resource Planning & Allocation
Manage strategic allocation of human capital across IT organization, balancing Run (operations) and Build (projects) workloads
Partner with IT managers to assign staff to projects and initiatives based on skills, availability, and strategic priorities
Develop capacity vs. capability models to ensure access to specialized skills (Epic-certified analysts, HL7 integration specialists, clinical application experts)
Monitor staff utilization rates and burn rates to prevent over-allocation and minimize risk of errors in critical hospital systems
Demand & Pipeline Management
Maintain comprehensive Demand Forecast database tracking upcoming projects, maintenance requirements, and IT resourcing needs
Work with IT leads to determine labor and capital requirements for incoming requests
Conduct ongoing pipeline analysis to anticipate resource constraints and talent gaps
Develop resource modeling frameworks to support strategic planning and budget forecasting
Prioritization & Intake Management
Partner with PMO to lead intake process for IT requests and initiatives
Implement prioritization frameworks scoring requests based on patient safety, regulatory compliance, ROI, and strategic alignment
Facilitate decision-making on competing priorities and resource trade-offs
Communicate resource constraints and allocation decisions to stakeholders
Workforce Analytics & Planning
Track and visualize team utilization metrics to identify over-leveraged teams and available bench capacity
Conduct skill gap mapping to identify training needs for emerging technologies and evolving healthcare IT landscape
Partner with HR and IT leadership on workforce development initiatives
Provide data-driven insights on workforce trends, capacity planning, and optimization opportunities
Stakeholder Collaboration
Serve as strategic partner to IT leadership on resource planning and organizational capacity
Collaborate with PMO, IT managers, and department leaders on project staffing and timeline feasibility
Communicate resource allocation decisions and rationale across IT organization
Support change management efforts related to resource optimization initiatives
Required QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree required
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in IT Resource Management, Workforce Planning, or Project Management Office (PMO) roles
Demonstrated understanding of healthcare IT environment including on-call requirements and 24/7 operational demands
Experience with specialized clinical application skill sets (Epic, HL7 integration, clinical systems support)
Proven track record managing resource allocation in complex, multi-project IT environments
Technical Skills
Expertise in Project Portfolio Management (PPM) software such as ServiceNow, Workfront, or Smartsheet for tracking labor hours and resource allocations
Advanced data analysis and visualization capabilities to illustrate utilization trends and capacity constraints
Proficiency with resource management methodologies and capacity planning frameworks
Strong Excel/data modeling skills for workforce analytics and forecasting
Healthcare IT Knowledge
Understanding of hospital IT operational model including Run vs. Build workload balance
Familiarity with healthcare IT roles and specialized certifications (Epic, HL7, MEDITECH, etc.)
Knowledge of healthcare IT project lifecycle and clinical application implementation processes
