IBM ZSeries Storage Manager

IBM zSeries Storage Engineer / Storage Manager Location: Hybrid / Data Centre Environment Type: Permanent / Contract We are seeking an experienced IBM zSeries Storage Engineer to join a global infrastructure team responsible for the engineering, delivery, support, and transformation of enterprise-scale zSeries storage platforms within a highly complex banking environment. This role will focus on the design, implementation, support, automation, and continuous improvement of zSeries storage infrastructure, working closely with internal stakeholders, global engineering teams, and technology vendors including IBM, Dell, and Broadcom. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise across IBM zSeries storage technologies with strong project delivery and stakeholder management capabilities. Key Responsibilities • Lead and support large-scale zSeries storage infrastructure deployment and evergreen projects • Design, configure, test, implement, and support zSeries storage hardware and software solutions • Perform technical project management activities across enterprise infrastructure initiatives • Develop and implement automation solutions to reduce manual operational effort and improve efficiency • Test and certify new hardware, software, microcode, and functionality releases • Drive infrastructure simplification, optimisation, risk reduction, and cost management initiatives • Produce high-quality technical and operational documentation for engineered solutions • Collaborate closely with global teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise storage solutions • Ensure service quality, platform stability, security, and operational standards are maintained • Support migration, transformation, and operational activities across the storage estate Essential Technical Skills & Experience IBM zSeries Storage Expertise • Strong IBM zSeries Storage Management and Engineering experience • Experience working within large-scale enterprise or banking environments • Strong technical project management capability across infrastructure programmes • Experience supporting enterprise change, incident, and problem management processes • Strong understanding of enterprise security, audit, risk, and compliance practices Hardware Skills • IBM DS8K storage installation, upgrade, configuration, and support experience • DSCLI scripting and HMC GUI experience • Dell DLM virtual tape (VTE with Data Domain) installation, upgrade, and support • Knowledge of Linux, NFS, and related storage technologies • Broadcom/Brocade DCX experience with FICON and Fibre Channel concepts and configuration • Experience using SANNav and MAPS Software Skills Strong knowledge of: • z/OS • TSO • SDSF • JCL • IDCAMS • IWS Storage technologies including: • DFHSM • DFDSS • ICKDSF • DFSMS (including OAM) • TDMF • GDPS • CSM Broadcom (CA) products including: • CA1 • CA Vantage • CA Disk • CA Allocate • CA View • Endeavor Additional tooling: • Dino Software (T-Rex, Terradon) • Rocket CR+ • Interchip RTD Desirable Skills • Knowledge of zSeries Systems Programming concepts • IBM TS7700 Virtual Tape experience • Data centre migration experience • Knowledge of GKLM, Spectrum Control, Storage Insights, and API integration • Experience with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), GitHub, and Jenkins • Scripting/programming experience using: • REXX • Python • YAML • Awareness of networking technologies and dark fibre concepts • Exposure to emerging infrastructure technologies and automation practices What We’re Looking For • A technically strong Storage SME with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset • Someone capable of leading and shaping enterprise storage infrastructure strategy • Strong stakeholder engagement and vendor management skills • An individual who thrives in complex, mission-critical enterprise environments • A collaborative team player who can work effectively within globally distributed teams • Someone comfortable balancing operational support, engineering delivery, and infrastructure transformation initiatives Working Environment This role operates within a global enterprise infrastructure environment supporting critical banking systems and services.
