Role description
Must-Haves: β€’ Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical degree/background β€’ Experience or strong academic foundation in software engineering, scripting, computer systems, or digital control systems β€’ Exposure to operational technology (OT), process networks, process devices, or industrial control environments β€’ Ability to support digital I&C design work, system upgrades, data migrations, and tiered approaches to computer system replacement β€’ Strong willingness to learn complex nuclear systems and work closely with existing subject matter experts β€’ Ability to work onsite at Oconee Nuclear Station 4 days per week and support outage schedules as needed β€’ Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills within a highly regulated environment β€’ Interest in or exposure to nuclear, power generation, utilities, manufacturing, or other regulated operational environments Plusses: β€’ Hands-on experience with OT infrastructure, virtualization, Hyper-V, Windows-based systems, or process network migration β€’ Experience supporting legacy-to-digital migrations, analog-to-digital upgrades, or major system cutovers β€’ Familiarity with Westinghouse, Emerson Ovation, Siemens, ABB, Rolls-Royce, or similar digital/control system platforms β€’ Knowledge of nuclear cybersecurity requirements, including NEI 08-09 or NRC Reg Guide 5.71 β€’ Experience supporting refueling outages, capital projects, modernization initiatives, or large-scale equipment replacement/retirement projects β€’ Local Clemson graduate or candidate with strong Upstate SC/NC ties β€’ PE or EIT certification Day-to-Day: β€’ Support Oconee’s Digital I&C Design Group on capital modernization projects focused on replacing, retiring, or upgrading legacy control and computer systems β€’ Assist with operational technology scope, including virtualization of process networks and migration of current process devices to newer Microsoft/Hyper-V-supported environments β€’ Support data migration, computer system replacement planning, and system cutover activities for digital upgrade projects β€’ Partner with existing SMEs to learn legacy platforms, understand current system functionality, and help transition systems to newer Windows-based platforms β€’ Assist with digital design work, engineering documentation, testing support, validation, and implementation planning β€’ Coordinate with engineering, operations, cyber infrastructure, and project teams to ensure work aligns with nuclear procedures, safety standards, and project milestones β€’ Provide support during outage periods, which may include long-term night/weekend coverage once qualified from an RE standpoint Job Description: Insight Global is seeking an I&C Engineer / Digital Projects Engineer to support Duke Energy’s Oconee Nuclear Station on long-term capital modernization work within the Digital I&C Design Group. This team is focused on upgrading and replacing legacy analog and computer-based control systems, supporting digital design efforts, and helping transition critical plant systems to newer Windows-based and virtualized environments. The ideal candidate may come from a computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, OT, or controls background and should be eager to learn complex nuclear systems while working alongside experienced site SMEs. This person will support data migrations, system cutovers, process network/device virtualization, documentation, testing, and implementation activities tied to digital upgrades and operational technology modernization. While nuclear experience is a plus, the team is open to candidates with strong technical fundamentals, local ties, and a willingness to learn within a highly regulated power generation environment.
