Location: onsite in central London 2-3 days per week
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to lead the technical design and delivery of a major on-premise data centre migration for a UK government client. This is a contract role requiring deep infrastructure expertise and strong stakeholder engagement, with a focus on robust, secure, and disruption-free migration.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Lead the end-to-end infrastructure architecture for the target data centre
β’ Conduct assessments of existing environments, dependencies, and workloads
β’ Design migration strategies covering tooling, sequencing, rollback, and DR
β’ Produce HLDs/LLDs across compute, storage, networking, and security domains
β’ Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and compliance standards
β’ Collaborate with project managers, technical teams, and vendors
β’ Maintain comprehensive design documentation and architectural records
β’ Architect solutions for high availability, resilience, and scalability
β’ Support engineering teams during implementation and act as a technical escalation point
Essential Skills:
β’ Proven experience in data centre migrations as an Infrastructure Architect or Senior Engineer
β’ Deep understanding of on-premise infrastructure, including:
β’ Compute (Windows/Linux, VMware, Hyper-V)
β’ Storage (SAN/NAS, backup, replication)
β’ Networking (LAN/WAN, firewalls, load balancers)
β’ IAM (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP)
β’ Skilled in designing HA/DR enterprise solutions
β’ Experience with discovery tools, CMDB, orchestration, and automation
β’ Familiar with ITSM and service transition practices
β’ Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to varied audiences
β’ Candidates must hold an active SC Clearance
β’ Desirable Skills:
β’ Certifications: VMware VCAP/VCIX, Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Microsoft, TOGAF, ITIL
β’ Experience in regulated sectors (defence, healthcare, finance)
β’ Knowledge of hybrid infrastructure and cloud readiness
