The Opportunity:
A leading European investment management firm is looking for a highly capable Senior Databricks Engineer / Modeller to join their London team on a 12-month contract. There is a clear opportunity for this position to become permanent, based on performance.
The successful candidate will step into a hands-on technical role focused on maintaining and developing a modern data platform, while also providing light-touch leadership to a small, capable team. The role sits within a business-critical function supporting portfolio and fund data initiatives across both BAU and small project workstreams.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Support and evolve a modern data environment with a strong focus on Databricks, SQL, Python, and Power BI.
β’ Deliver high-quality data models and workflows to support investment reporting and analytics.
β’ Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to junior team members.
β’ Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, ensuring data accuracy, availability, and operational efficiency.
β’ Work closely with senior stakeholders including the CTO, COO, CFO, and Heads of Risk, Investment, and Operations to shape and execute the firm's data strategy.
β’ Engage with business SMEs and analysts to understand requirements and translate them into robust data solutions.
Ideal Profile:
β’ Proven experience in a senior data engineering or modelling role, ideally within asset management, fund services, or investment banking.
β’ Deep experience with:
β’ Databricks (Spark/Delta Lake, notebooks, performance tuning)
β’ SQL (strong querying, data manipulation)
β’ Python (ideally for data pipelines or modelling)
β’ Power BI (dashboards, reporting)
β’ Financial services background essential β experience with open-ended funds, E-front, or fund performance data highly desirable.
β’ Familiarity with small, high-performing teams β ideally with some experience in team coordination or mentorship.
β’ CFA qualification (any level) or a financial engineering background would be a strong plus.
β’ Fluent English required; French language skills beneficial.
β’ Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently.
