About the Role
Our Biotech client is seeking a motivated Junior Cloud Engineer with a solid foundation in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and a passion for cloud infrastructure. This is an onsite position at the clientβs South San Francisco office, working directly with engineering and data teams to support research and cloud-based applications.
Youβll collaborate with senior cloud and DevOps engineers to deploy, monitor, and optimize cloud workloads while maintaining a secure and scalable environment. This role is ideal for someone with GCP certification and a desire to grow their hands-on skills in a fast-paced, innovative Biotech environment.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Assist in the setup and management of GCP organizations, projects, and billing.
β’ Manage IAM roles, permissions, and service accounts to ensure secure access control.
β’ Support deployment and monitoring of workloads using Compute Engine, App Engine, Cloud Run, and Cloud Functions.
β’ Maintain and optimize Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Firestore, and BigQuery environments.
β’ Implement and monitor Cloud Logging (Stackdriver) and Cloud Monitoring for system performance.
β’ Configure and manage VPCs, subnets, routes, firewalls, load balancers, and Cloud DNS.
β’ Apply basic encryption (KMS) and security best practices.
β’ Contribute to automation using Terraform, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
β’ Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support R&D cloud applications and infrastructure operations.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
β’ Understanding of GCP core services (Compute, Networking, IAM, Storage).
β’ Experience using gcloud CLI, Cloud Console, and Cloud Shell.
β’ Familiarity with Linux administration and command-line tools.
β’ Basic knowledge of Python, SQL, or Bash scripting.
β’ Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn in a collaborative, on-site setting.
Preferred Certifications:
β’ Google Associate Cloud Engineer (ACE)
β’ Google Cloud Digital Leader
β’ AWS Solutions Architect, CompTIA Cloud+, or Linux+
Bonus Skills:
β’ Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) concepts
β’ Experience with GitHub Actions or CI/CD pipelines
