Kong API Gateway

Title: Kong Engineer – Observability Focus Location: Fort Mill, SC / Austin, TX / Tempe, AZ / San Diego, CA Type: Contract Job Summary: We are looking for a highly skilled Kong Engineer with expertise in observability to join our team. This role focuses on ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of API infrastructure by implementing and maintaining observability tools and practices around Kong API Gateway. Key Responsibilities: • Implement and manage observability solutions to monitor Kong performance and reliability. • Develop dashboards, alerts, and metrics to ensure visibility into Kong operations. • Collaborate with teams to integrate Kong observability with other systems. • Troubleshoot issues related to Kong latency, performance, and API integrity. • Tune and optimize Kong configurations based on observability insights. • Stay current on Kong and observability best practices and innovations. • Mentor junior engineers on observability and Kong-related topics. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Kong API Gateway in production. • Deep understanding of Kong architecture (plugins, routes, services, consumers). • Proficiency in observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, etc. • Strong scripting experience (Python, Bash or similar). • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes. • Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). • Knowledge of other API gateways (e.g., Apigee, AWS API Gateway). • Hands-on with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
