Role description
Optomi, in partnership with a leading transportation/logistics company, is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to serve as a foundational member of a large-scale data modernization initiative centered around Snowflake. This individual will act as the primary internal engineering resource supporting the design, development, and long-term ownership of the organization's modern data platform. Qualifications: • 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or related disciplines. • Strong hands-on expertise & core competence with Snowflake. • Experience designing and implementing modern cloud data architectures. • Strong SQL, Python, and data modeling skills. • Experience building and maintaining enterprise-scale ETL/ELT pipelines. • Familiarity with modern data stack technologies including dbt and at least one major ingestion/orchestration platform (fivetran, stitch, matillion, etc) • Experience working across the full lifecycle of data ingestion, transformation, modeling, governance, and consumption. • Ability to independently evaluate architectural tradeoffs and contribute to solution design discussions. • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders. Responsibilities: • Partner with internal stakeholders and external consulting teams to design and implement a scalable Snowflake-based data platform. • Help establish and maintain a modern data architecture utilizing medallion principles (Bronze, Silver, Gold). • Develop, optimize, and maintain data pipelines, ingestion frameworks, and transformation workflows. • Evaluate and contribute to tooling decisions across the modern data stack, including Snowflake-native capabilities and technologies such as dbt, Fivetran, Airbyte, Matillion, or similar platforms. • Support data modeling, pipeline orchestration, performance tuning, and platform optimization initiatives. • Participate in requirements gathering and solution design workshops to ensure technical solutions align with business objectives. • Collaborate with analytics teams to deliver trusted, governed datasets that support self-service reporting and advanced analytics. • Establish best practices around documentation, data governance, security, data quality, and platform maintainability. • Assist in evaluating and implementing data quality monitoring and governance frameworks.
