Lead Power BI Engineer

Our client is seeking a Lead BI Engineer to drive the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-grade Power BI solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on BI leader passionate about empowering business users with scalable analytics and high-impact insights. This role will be instrumental in advancing self-service analytics, establishing robust semantic models, and promoting a culture of data governance and literacy. As a technical leader, you will own the full Power BI lifecycle—from data modeling and DAX optimization to deployment, adoption, and performance tuning. Key Responsibilities • Lead the design and development of scalable, enterprise-level Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models aligned with business objectives • Build and maintain semantic data models optimized for performance, usability, and long-term scalability • Partner with data architects and engineers to integrate dimensional models and align with data warehouse frameworks (e.g., Kimball methodology) • Develop advanced DAX calculations and Power Query (M) transformations while optimizing query and report performance • Establish and enforce Power BI governance standards, including naming conventions, workspace architecture, security models, and row-level security • Drive DevOps best practices using tools like GitHub and Azure DevOps for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and lifecycle management • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define KPIs, gather requirements, and translate data into compelling visual insights • Promote self-service analytics through training, documentation, and user adoption strategies • Ensure data accuracy and integrity through validation processes and governance alignment • Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve Power BI performance across datasets and reports • Mentor and guide junior BI developers on best practices, modeling techniques, and delivery standards • Contribute to BI strategy, including roadmap planning, architecture reviews, and platform enhancements • Stay current with emerging Power BI features, tools, and visualization best practices Required Qualifications Education • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative field Experience • 7+ years of experience in business intelligence or analytics, with a strong focus on Microsoft BI tools • 3+ years leading enterprise-scale Power BI implementations, including design, development, and deployment • Deep expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), SQL, and semantic data modeling using Kimball methodology • Proven experience delivering end-to-end BI solutions, from requirements gathering to production deployment • Strong background in Power BI; experience with Tableau or Qlik is a plus • Experience integrating BI solutions with platforms such as SQL Server, Snowflake, or other cloud data warehouses • Familiarity with structured and semi-structured data (e.g., SQL, JSON, flat files) • Experience with Azure environments and Power BI Service administration, including security and workspace management • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including GitHub and Azure DevOps for CI/CD • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments using tools like Jira or Azure Boards • Proven ability to define KPIs and translate business requirements into actionable insights • Experience mentoring and leading BI developers Technical Knowledge & Expertise • Strong understanding of analytics trends, business intelligence technologies, and evolving data ecosystems • Exposure to AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Azure ML, or Databricks is a plus • Ability to operate at the intersection of business and technology, driving organizational and analytical transformation Core Competencies • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues in real time • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex insights clearly and persuasively • Proven ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and collaborate across all organizational levels • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and delivering innovative, practical solutions • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive information About SOLTECH SOLTECH is a leading national technology company based in Atlanta, driven by a steadfast commitment to integrity, strong company values, and customer centricity.
