Duration: Minimum 6 months, with option to extend
Schedule: Full‑time
Location Preference: U.S.-based candidates preferred; Eastern Time Zone strongly preferred
Elevate is partnering with a highly respected global technology organization to identify an experienced Legal Engineer for a defined, short‑term engagement. This role is well suited for a hands‑on, self‑directed professional who thrives at the intersection of Legal, Operations, and Engineering and enjoys building practical, scalable solutions using modern technology and automation.
The Legal Engineer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and supporting the systems, workflows, and AI‑enabled tools used across the Legal function. The position offers immediate impact, a clear timeline, and close collaboration with Legal practice groups, Legal Operations, IT, and Engineering within a mature, forward‑thinking in‑house legal environment.
Required Qualifications
• 3–5+ years of experience in legal operations, legal systems, business systems, product operations, or similar technical operations roles; prior experience supporting in‑house legal teams strongly preferred
• Hands‑on administration experience with Jira Service Management (JSM), including:
• Request types, workflows, custom fields, screens, queues, permissions
• SLAs, automations, and troubleshooting
• Experience configuring or supporting at least one legal technology platform (e.g., TAP/ThinkSmart, CLM systems such as Oracle CLM, e‑billing, or similar tools)
• Comfort working with REST APIs, system integrations, and cross‑platform data flows
• Practical experience with developer and infrastructure tooling, including GitHub and CI/CD workflows
• Familiarity with integration or orchestration frameworks (e.g., MCP server concepts or similar)
• Ability to work with scripts or configuration artifacts (YAML/JSON; basic Python, TypeScript, or shell) to support automation and integrations
• Experience gathering requirements, mapping processes, and delivering well‑documented, well‑adopted solutions
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical legal stakeholders
• Ability to meet hybrid onsite requirements (minimum 3 days per week)
• Availability for an early summer through fall contract timeframe
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in a Legal Engineer, Legal Systems, or Legal Operations role
• Experience designing and launching legal intake, workflow, or service management solutions
• Exposure to AI initiatives in a legal or enterprise environment, including testing, iteration, and user feedback collection
• Experience building dashboards or reports (e.g., Looker or similar BI tools) to track intake, throughput, SLAs, or performance metrics
• Background supporting legal teams in a technology‑driven or highly scaled organization
• Comfort stepping into short‑term or project‑based roles and delivering impact quickly with minimal ramp‑up
Why This Opportunity
• High‑impact, hands‑on Legal Engineering work with immediate visibility
• Clearly defined, short‑term engagement with potential for extension
• Direct partnership with Legal Operations, practice groups, Engineering, and IT
• Opportunity to work on modern legal workflows, integrations, and AI‑enabled tools
• Mature, collaborative in‑house legal environment that values practical, scalable solutions
• Hybrid working model that balances onsite collaboration with flexibility
