Role description
This role supports our client's legal matter data management objectives by coordinating and executing the disposition of matter data held by Legal suppliers (e.g., outside counsel and other vendors). The Consultant will partner with internal stakeholders and third parties to help ensure data is classified, retained, transferred, and destroyed in accordance with documented procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable retention and destruction obligations. Responsibilities β€’ Manage the end-to-end operational workflow for matter data management activities, including outreach, intake/triage, secure data transfers, and destruction processing. β€’ Support adherence to retention and destruction requirements for client data held by Legal suppliers, including tracking status, approvals, and outcomes. β€’ Partner with suppliers to perform data hygiene and classification activities aligned to contractual and operational requirements (e.g., MSA obligations), escalating issues as needed. β€’ Execute established Legal data management procedures and controls related to classification, retention, secure transfer, and destruction of client data. β€’ Coordinate data management tasks with attorneys in the client Legal Department, outside counsel, and internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, including: β€’ o managing communications and required approvals, β€’ o documenting evidence of completion/compliance, and β€’ o following defined escalation paths and governance routines. β€’ Contribute to the development, maintenance, and documentation of procedures, job aids, and operational playbooks in alignment with firmwide policy and Legal operational requirements. Required Qualifications β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Library Science, History, or a related/adjacent discipline (or equivalent practical experience). β€’ 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following: data management, records management, legal operations, or information governance, preferably within an in-house legal department or law firm records function. β€’ Working knowledge of records retention and/or data management principles. β€’ Familiarity with legal hold concepts and litigation preservation requirements. β€’ Understanding of confidentiality, privacy, and data protection expectations and the ability to apply them in day-to-day operational handling of information. Preferred Qualifications β€’ Experience supporting supplier/vendor engagement in a regulated environment, including evidence capture, control execution, and audit-ready documentation. β€’ Experience coordinating cross-functional stakeholders across regions/time zones and driving tasks to closure with clear tracking and escalation. β€’ Exposure to matter management, eDiscovery, or information governance tooling and workflows (where applicable).
