About the Role: This is a short term remote part time consulting project. You’ll serve as the Logging & SIEM Engineer responsible for evaluating, hardening, and optimizing the VMware Aria Operations for Logs / Log Insight environment. Your focus will be ensuring secure, resilient, and compliant logging across VMware components, with seamless integration into enterprise SIEM platforms. This role bridges infrastructure visibility with cybersecurity, helping the client achieve comprehensive monitoring and threat detection coverage. What you will be doing: Assess and harden Aria Operations for Logs / Log Insight configurations. Validate log collection, retention, forwarding, and encryption settings. Ensure secure integration of VMware logging with enterprise SIEM (e.g., Splunk, QRadar, or Sentinel). Align configuration with VMware Security Configuration Guides (SCGs), CIS benchmarks, and DISA STIG standards. Identify gaps in log source coverage and propose ingestion or normalization improvements. Collaborate with the vSphere, Identity, and Aria engineers to correlate findings and enhance event visibility. Contribute to the Technical Hardening Guide and Findings & Recommendations Report deliverables. What We Want To See: 5+ years of experience in logging infrastructure, SIEM engineering, or security monitoring. Hands-on with VMware Aria Operations for Logs (formerly vRealize Log Insight). Strong understanding of log pipelines, data retention policies, and event correlation. Familiarity with hardening practices for log servers, APIs, and syslog collectors. Experience working with security frameworks (NIST 800-53, CIS, DISA STIG). Technologies used in this role: VMware Aria Operations for Logs / Log Insight, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, Splunk, QRadar, Sentinel, Syslog, REST APIs, JSON, PowerCLI, and SIEM integration tools. Bonus Points for: Experience with Aria Operations or Aria Suite Lifecycle integration. Familiarity with CrowdStrike and Google Mandiant hardening frameworks. Certifications such as VMware VCP, Splunk Certified Architect, or GIAC GCIA. Knowledge of federal or FAA cybersecurity compliance environments.
