Job Description As a Looker SME you will be the driving force behind our client's most critical reporting and data visualization initiatives. Your mission is to leverage your deep expertise in Looker and SQL to transform complex business needs into powerful, scalable, and intuitive data solutions. You will dive deep into intricate data models and queries, acting as the primary technical expert for all things Looker. By designing, building, and optimizing LookML models and dashboards, you will empower business users with the actionable insights they need to drive decisions, ensuring our data solutions are not only technically excellent but also incredibly impactful. Expectations • Required Travel: Very limited travel may be required to client sites for key design sessions and workshops. • Customer Facing: You will interact directly with a range of customer stakeholders, including business analysts, data teams, and power users. Common touchpoints will include solution design sessions, demonstrating new features, and providing expert guidance on Looker capabilities to solve their specific business challenges. • Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with data engineers to understand the underlying data architecture and with the Product Owner to ensure your technical solutions are perfectly aligned with the strategic goals of the project. You will serve as the primary Looker technical expert within the project team. Job Requirements Required Qualifications: • Looker / LookML Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on, advanced experience with Looker. You must possess an exceptional ability to design, write, and maintain sophisticated, scalable LookML models. • Expert SQL Proficiency: Very strong proficiency with SQL, specifically the ability to read,write understand, debug, and optimize highly complex queries and data structures within a modern data warehouse environment.Must be able to do this verbally and collaboratively in real time. • Cloud Data Warehouse Experience: Experience working with cloud platforms, specifically with Google BigQuery, and understanding how to write performant SQL for it. • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to tackle difficult and ambiguous technical data challenges and propose effective, scalable solutions. • Stakeholder Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical solutions and recommendations to both technical and business audiences. “Nice to Have” Qualifications: • Python Programming: Experience with Python for data scripting or analysis. • Consulting Experience: Previous experience working in a client-facing consulting role. • SAP Data Familiarity: A general understanding of SAP data structures. • Broader Data Visualization Experience: Experience with other data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). • Agile Experience: Familiarity with working in Agile development environments. Key Responsibilities: • Design & Develop LookML Models: Architect, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient LookML models that serve as the single source of truth for business reporting. • Optimize Complex SQL: Analyze, troubleshoot, and rewrite complex SQL queries to ensure optimal performance of Looker Explores and dashboards on BigQuery. • Build Advanced Looker Content: Develop sophisticated Looker Explores, dashboards, and other data visualizations that are intuitive, performant, and directly address key business questions. • Provide Technical Solutions: Act as the lead technical expert for Looker, providing guidance, solving complex technical roadblocks, and establishing best practices for LookML development. • Ensure Data Integrity: Collaborate with data engineering teams to understand the data architecture and ensure the accuracy, quality, and integrity of data presented in Looker. • Serve as a Looker SME: Be the subject matter expert on the team for all Looker functionality, new features, and advanced use cases, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance existing solutions.
