Role description
Machine Learning Engineer (AI Data Trainer)
About The Role
What if your technical expertise could directly shape how the world's most advanced AI systems think, plan, and solve problems? We're looking for Machine Learning Engineers to help train cutting-edge large language models — not by writing model code, but by doing something arguably more impactful: teaching AI how to reason.
This project is about capturing the thinking behind the action. You'll author structured reasoning traces that show how an intelligent system should plan, use tools, and make decisions step by step — creating the training data that makes next-generation AI more reliable in the real world.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for technically minded people who think clearly, write precisely, and love working on hard problems.
• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
• Author clear, structured reasoning traces that demonstrate how an AI should approach and solve complex technical tasks
• Document step-by-step planning and decision-making processes — including when and how to use tools
• Create high-quality training data that captures real-world logic, problem decomposition, and sound judgment
• Evaluate and refine AI decision-making workflows to improve reliability and consistency
• Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
• Background in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field
• Able to articulate complex logical steps and technical reasoning clearly in writing
• Strong analytical thinker who can break down ambiguous problems into structured, actionable steps
• Detail-oriented and consistent — you take quality seriously and it shows in your work
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently without heavy oversight
Nice to Have
• Prior experience with data annotation, data labeling, or AI evaluation systems
• Familiarity with how large language models are trained or fine-tuned
• Experience writing technical documentation, specifications, or structured problem walkthroughs
• Background in software engineering, applied ML, or AI research
Why Join Us
• Work directly on projects with leading AI research labs and teams pushing the frontier of LLM capabilities
• Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
• Freelance autonomy with meaningful, intellectually engaging work
• Gain rare, hands-on exposure to how advanced AI models are trained from the inside
• Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
