Role description
MapR 6.1 Data Engineer (Contract) 📍 Location: Chandler, AZ (Hybrid) 📅 Duration: 12-Month Contract We are seeking experienced Hadoop / MapR 6.1 Data Engineers to support a critical transition from a legacy HPE MapR 6.1 / Hadoop environment to new enterprise platforms. As internal full-time teams shift toward future-state solutions, this contract team will play a vital role in maintaining stability, supporting patching efforts, and managing the structured retirement of legacy systems. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on execution, not administration. Key Responsibilities • Maintain, stabilize, and support legacy MapR 6.1 and Hadoop environments during transition • Execute critical patching and updates provided by HPE • Conduct lab testing prior to production deployments • Implement environment configurations using internal distribution tools • Support application decommissioning and retirement activities • Ensure continuity of operations during platform migration • Collaborate with FTE teams transitioning to new environments • Participate in knowledge transfer and cross-training initiatives Required Skills & Experience • Strong hands-on experience with MapR 6.1 (must-have) • Enterprise-level Hadoop engineering experience • Deep understanding of data pipelines, clusters, and distributed systems • Proven troubleshooting experience in large-scale data environments • Experience patching, testing, validating, and deploying system updates • Ability to work in a true engineering-focused role • Adaptability to learn new tools introduced during transition
