Job Description – Meter Technical Analyst
Location : Jackson, MI – hybrid
Employment Type: Contract (Long-term with potential for extension)
Overview:
The Meter Technical Analyst plays a key role within the Smart Energy Operations Center (SEOC), a department responsible for monitoring metering devices and ensuring accurate end-to-end data flow—from field devices to billing systems. The analyst will spend the majority of their time working within the exception management system, resolving discrepancies, data breaks, and system mismatches related to metering equipment.
This role requires a highly technical, analytical, and investigative individual who can dive deep into multiple systems, identify issues, and work cross-functionally to bring them to resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
Exception Management & Issue Resolution (Primary – 99%)
• Analyze, research, and resolve metering exceptions where system configurations, device information, or data reads do not align.
• Investigate discrepancies by reviewing notes, verifying installations, and tracing system communication paths.
• Perform root-cause analysis to determine why errors occurred and ensure corrective steps are taken.
Data Analysis & System Review
• Conduct extensive data review to ensure meter communication and read accuracy across systems and into billing.
• Use MS Excel heavily to consolidate, manipulate, analyze, and track data trends and exception progress.
• Identify data anomalies, system breaks, and patterns requiring escalation or process updates.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Proactively reach out to internal departments to verify information and coordinate resolution of metering or system issues.
• Communicate findings clearly to the appropriate teams and ensure follow-through until issues are closed.
Process Improvement
• Recommend updates to workflows, documentation, and validations to minimize recurring errors.
• Provide insights to improve system consistency, data flow, and overall metering accuracy.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Strong data investigation skills; ability to dive into multiple systems and identify inconsistencies.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Excel (data pulls, pivot tables, lookups, filtering, tracking, etc.).
• Experience working with exception management workflows.
Industry/Systems Experience
• Utilities or metering experience preferred.
• SAP experience strongly preferred.
Soft Skills
• Independent worker with strong follow-through.
• Comfortable acting as a “detective” and taking ownership of complex issues.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Education & Experience Requirements
• Candidates must meet one of the following:
• Bachelor’s Degree (Business or Technical) + 2 years relevant experience
• Associate Degree (Business or Technical) + 4 years relevant experience
• High School Diploma + 6 years relevant experience
Interview Format

• Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Jackson, MI (Parnall location).
