Job Title: OpenStack Engineer
Location: Hybrid - Dallas, TX
Role Overview
As an OpenStack Engineer, you will be at the forefront of delivering advanced on-premises cloud platform, powered by OpenStack. You will design, build, and support a secure, scalable, and high-performance cloud environment, collaborating closely with Linux Engineers, Developers, Security specialists, and other infrastructure teams. Your work will emphasize automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD methodologies, and open-source best practices to accelerate delivery and foster continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Design, deploy, and maintain a highly scalable and secure OpenStack-based cloud platform.
β’ Optimize workload deployment and performance across the private cloud.
β’ Drive platform adoption and gather user feedback to inform enhancements.
β’ Contribute to upstream OpenStack open-source projects.
β’ Perform diagnostics, performance tuning, and capacity planning for seamless scaling.
β’ Implement security hardening measures for the platform and supporting systems.
β’ Provide mentorship to junior engineers and promote platform best practices.
β’ Collaborate across teams to ensure integration and operational excellence.
Required Skills & Experience
β’ 5+ years of hands-on experience with OpenStack in production environments.
β’ Proven expertise in architecting, managing, and upgrading large-scale OpenStack deployments.
β’ Experience managing and operating CEPH storage clusters.
β’ Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
β’ Advanced proficiency with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
β’ Expertise in at least one programming language (Python preferred).
β’ Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
β’ Solid knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git).
β’ Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
β’ Good knowledge of server hardware, including BMC/Redfish.
Desirable Skills
β’ Experience with Kolla Ansible or similar OpenStack deployment tools.
β’ Bare metal provisioning (Ironic, MaaS).
β’ Experience with HashiCorp Vault and Terraform.
β’ HPC cluster deployment and management.
β’ Infiniband networking experience.
β’ Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) experience, including monitoring solutions, SLIs, and SLOs.
