Role description
Responsibilities:
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic, hands‑on Operational Technology (OT) / Manufacturing Technology Engineer to support technology integration, automation enhancements, and digital transformation initiatives across their production environment.
This person will play a key role in deploying new technologies, supporting plant operations, and improving the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing systems.
This role is ideal for someone who is technically curious, collaborative, and excited about working closely with production, engineering, and IT teams.
The client is open on experience level—ranging from entry‑level candidates eager to learn, to more seasoned engineers seeking a long‑term home.
This is a contract to hire opportunity located onsite in Bensenville, IL.
Responsibilities:
Introduce, integrate, and deploy new technology solutions within the manufacturing facility
Identify opportunities to enhance automation, efficiency, and digital transformation across production operations
Partner with Production, Inventory, Engineering, Maintenance, IT, Quality, and other functional groups to understand operational needs
Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting on OT systems to minimize production downtime
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize and integrate OT systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and automation technologies
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and operating system issues
Evaluate, propose, and support technology solutions in coordination with technology and maintenance teams
Document system configurations, procedures, and technical workflows
Lead and support end‑to‑end IT/OT implementation and ongoing management
Ensure OT systems integrate effectively with the corporate IT network
Participate in future capital and technology projects to ensure planning aligns with OT requirements
Stay current on emerging technologies related to Industrial IoT, OT cybersecurity, automation, and data standardization
Perform related duties and project work as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology, or related discipline
Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical users and stakeholders
Quick learner with strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities
Ability to troubleshoot industrial control systems and automation technology
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, OPC UA)
Knowledge of Siemens S7 and TIA Portal, as well as Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000/FactoryTalk
Understanding of IT/OT technologies, automation, and data acquisition concepts
Basic project management capabilities (planning, budgeting, scheduling, progress tracking, risk management)
Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices within manufacturing environments
Working knowledge of PLC programming, HMI, and SCADA systems
Understanding of wiring diagrams, industrial controls, and electrical basics
Experience working with network switches
CCNA certification preferred
Experience with Linux, PowerShell, and SQL is a plus
Must demonstrate a “can-do” attitude
Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
Must demonstrate a “can-do” attitude
