Role description
Job OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our database systems, ensuring high availability and performance. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in Oracle RDBMS and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), who thrives in both on-premises and cloud-based environments. The Database Administrator will work closely with development teams to optimize data storage and retrieval processes, contributing to the overall efficiency of our applications.
Duties
Administer and maintain MySQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Implement high availability solutions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous access to critical data.
Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions using Oracle Data Guard, RMAN, and OCI-native tools.
Migrate on-premises Oracle databases to OCI using tools like Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM), Data Pump.
Develop and manage ETL processes using SSIS for efficient data integration and transformation.
Perform database design tasks, including schema creation, indexing strategies, and normalization techniques.
Conduct performance tuning of databases to enhance query execution times and overall system responsiveness.
Utilize scripting languages such as Bash (Unix shell) and PL/SQL for automation of routine tasks and maintenance activities.
Monitor database health through regular audits, backups, and recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity.
Collaborate with development teams to identify database-related issues and implement effective solutions.
Document database configurations, procedures, and best practices for future reference.
Experience
Proven experience in database administration with a strong focus on MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or similar technologies.
Experience with OCI services such as Autonomous Database, OCI Compute, Block Storage, and Object Storage.
Proficiency in backup and recovery strategies using RMAN.
Experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and monitoring tools.
Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, Perl or similar).
Proficiency in performance tuning techniques and troubleshooting database issues.
Familiarity with Linux operating systems and shell scripting for task automation is highly desirable.
Experience with ETL processes and tools such as SSIS is a plus.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
