SUMMARYThe Oracle Database Administrator is responsible for backup, recovery, server architecture, performance tuning, security, auditing, metadata management, optimization, statistics, capacity planning, connectivity, and other data solutions of mission critical database systems. Develops databases with SQL, stored procedures, triggers, transactional modeling, dimensional modeling, normalization, indexing methods, constraints, and object usage.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Builds and maintains the ongoing operational functionality and efficiency of CPS Energy databases ensuring system performance, availability, reliability, security, recoverability and efficient usage of server infrastructure resources.
Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain corporate databases and processing demands.
Ensures database system security, change management, backup and recovery are maintained in compliance with corporate, state and federal regulations.
Provides database solutions to solve complex business issues including data processing, loading, performance improvements, data storage and data replication.
Diagnoses, troubleshoots and resolves database related issues including storage, performance, availability, data integrity and database security.
Performs and automates database management, maintenance and data processing activities.
Applies understanding of modern networks and operating systems as they pertain to database system architecture and functionality.
Develops scripts to perform system maintenance, monitor systems, automate tasks, etc.
Performs as technology subject matter expert for relational database management systems such as Oracle 10g, 11g, 12c, 18c and 19c.
Modifies existing databases and database management systems or directs programmers and analysts to make changes with appropriate database objects such as indexes, tables, partitions, triggers, constraints, stored procedures, large objects, views, etc.
Works as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
Writes and codes logical and physical database descriptions and specifies identifiers of database to management system or directs others in coding descriptions.
Reviews project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project.
Develops standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information.
Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views and sequences, packages and procedures.
Evaluates releases of Oracle and its tools, and third-party products to ensure that the organization is running the products that are most appropriate.
Troubleshoots issues associated with databases, applications and development tools and provides technical support to application development teams.
On-call rotation is required to support 24/7 environment and is also expected to be able to work outside business hours to support corporate needs.
Installs, configures, and administers Oracle Golden Gate replication that includes troubleshooting of extracts, pump, and replication processes.
Uses Commvault to perform database backups, point-in-time restore and recoveries.
Applies OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) for troubleshooting database performance tuning and generating reports using Information Publisher and BI Publisher reports.
Collaboration with various technical/non-technical resources such as infrastructure and application teams regarding project work, POCs (Proofs of Concept) and/or troubleshooting exercises.
Analyzes Operating System statistics and troubleshooting performance related problems on storage, I/O (Input/Output) throughput and OS (Operating System) kernel parameters.
Upgrades Oracle databases using logical standby to minimize downtime to applications.
Creation and configuration of Oracle Data Guard to use physical, logical, snapshot standby databases, and Fast Start Failover.
Performs Unix (AIX) and Linux operating systems tasks associated with Oracle.
Creation and configuration of Oracle Multitenant database environments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
ERP experience
Oracle Administration
Experience in transitioning with ERP to Oracle
Required Education, Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree (or higher), or degree equivalent, in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
A minimum of six yearsβ experience in a Production Oracle ecosystem or higher education equivalent.
A minimum of four yearsβ experience with the following:
Hands on experience with Oracle database administration in UNIX and virtual environments.
Skilled in performing detailed performance analysis and resource utilization of systems.
Proficiency with Oracle backups, restores and recovery models.
Hands on experience with High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Oracle (RAC/Data Guard).
Know-how in migrating code and database changes through the various stages of the development life cycle.
Skilled in troubleshooting and performance tuning skills with Oracle databases.
Experience in project management concepts, tools (MS Project) and techniques.
Hands on experience as technology subject matter expert for at least three versions of relational database management systems such as Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g, 12c, 18c and 19c.
Installation, configuration and administration of Oracle Golden Gate replication that includes troubleshooting of extracts, pump, and replication processes.
OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) troubleshooting of database performance tuning and generating reports using Information Publisher and BI Publisher reports.
Skilled in using Recovery Manager (RMAN) and ASM (Automatic Storage Management) for backups and storage management.
Strong ability to organize information, manage tasks and use available tools to effectively contribute to a team and the organization.
Makes independent recommendations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
Valid Class C Texas Driverβs License.
Preferred Qualifications
Masterβs degree in Information Systems or related field from an accredited university.
Oracle certifications are a plus. Examples include: Oracle Autonomous database, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Oracle Certified Associate, Oracle Certified Professional.
Experience in administering, patching, upgrading Oracle databases based on SAP ERP applications.
Performed database tasks using BR

Experience with Hyperconverged infrastructure.
Utility Industry experience.
NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) background and experience.
