This role focuses heavily on automation, data analysis, and GIS workflows, supporting both internal operations and external-facing 811 (Call Before You Dig) services. You will work within a highly collaborative team responsible for mapping fiber cables, strands, conduits, handholes, and manholes, while modernizing workflows through scripting and AI-assisted automation. What You’ll Do • Develop, maintain, and enhance Python scripts (1,300+ existing scripts) used for GIS workflows, data analysis, and 811 automation • Perform advanced geospatial analysis, combining and reconciling multiple data sources to assess fiber‑network impacts • Work daily in GIS platforms (Esri / ArcGIS preferred) to build circuits, update inventory, and maintain map accuracy • Support an external investigations portal where third parties define work areas (polygon‑based mapping) to identify fiber‑network conflicts • Automate data extraction, transformation, and submission processes related to 811 dig‑ticket compliance • Partner with team members to modernize workflows using AI tools (e.g., Google Gemini, LLMs)—including validating AI‑generated code • Support ongoing improvements to data migration, analytics, and operational efficiency Required Qualifications • Strong proficiency in Python scripting (writing, debugging, maintaining scripts is essential) • Hands‑on experience with GIS / geospatial systems, preferably Esri / ArcGIS • Strong understanding of data relationships, data merging, and analytics • Ability to review, validate, and troubleshoot AI‑generated scripts • 4+ years of relevant professional experience • Associate’s degree or higher, or equivalent practical experience Preferred Qualifications • Experience with telecom or fiber‑network inventory (not required—domain knowledge can be taught) • Experience supporting 811 / dig‑ticket systems • Familiarity with using AI tools for automation and scripting • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to learn complex systems quickly
